So we had finally agreed on the name max for our ds 4 due in November, just heard today a neighbour has named her newborn max. We live in a small village and they will be in the same pre school, class in school, football team etc, would that put you off? It's been hard to agree on a name as it is!!!

TheGhostOfYou · 14/09/2018 14:45

It would put me off using it tbh.

Icklepup · 14/09/2018 14:46

It wouldn't put me off.

Disfordarkchocolate · 14/09/2018 14:49

Wouldn't bother me at all.

SpottingTheZebras · 14/09/2018 14:50

A huge number of children go to school with a child who has the same name as them.

D2018 · 14/09/2018 14:59

If you don't socialise with them then no it wouldn't put me off.x

Aprilshowersnowastorm · 14/09/2018 15:01

How newborn? Before 31/8 he would be in the year below your ds...

LeeMiller · 14/09/2018 15:20

It's fine, they're neighbours not family. You might change the name to one you like less and have this happen anyway.

ReginaPhalange89 · 14/09/2018 15:47

I think unless you socialise with them often then it's fine

Peachbubble · 14/09/2018 15:59

I'd still use it. They may move, you may move anyway.

AnnieAnoniMoose · 14/09/2018 16:02

I would find another one.
IF it had been a family name or one I’d always wanted to use I’d probably still use it, but not as it’s just a name you liked iyswim.

shaggedthruahedgebackwards · 14/09/2018 16:03

I would probably still use the name

If the name was something really unusual then it might put me off but the reality is that unless you choose something really obscure it is very likely at some point your DS will encounter another child with the same name and it really isn't a problem

DramaAlpaca · 14/09/2018 16:09

I'd use it if you love it & had already decided on it.

butlerswharf · 14/09/2018 16:11

If I'd already chosen it then I'd use it.

Fatted · 14/09/2018 16:14

I'd still use it. My youngest has a relatively 'common' name and we expected him to share the same name with classmates. But he's the only one in his class.

Sunflower321 · 14/09/2018 17:35

There are SO many lovely names to choose from that hopefully everyone in your village can have their own name. I'd choose another one.

Sunflower321 · 14/09/2018 17:36

Especially if you already know that the two Maxes would be in the same class etc

Skyejuly · 14/09/2018 17:37

Its a common name so it wouldnt put me off.

What about Maxwell?

Sandstormbrewing · 14/09/2018 18:52

Max is so popular it wouldn't put me off. You could call him Max but give him a long name version on the bc if it really bothers you?

Sessy19 · 14/09/2018 21:45

I wouldn’t.

DiegoMad0nna · 14/09/2018 21:51

One of my best friends has the same name as me. We've been friends for 20 years and still speak on whatsapp most days.

Never bothered me in the slightest.

Shadow1234 · 14/09/2018 22:46

Go with your heart. I would definitely not be put off.

mrsm12 · 15/09/2018 08:33

Thanks everyone, think we'll still go with it but keep an open mind to any other names I might fall in love with in the mean time

Aprilshowersnowastorm · 15/09/2018 15:36

Maximus would be my spin on it!!

YeTalkShiteHen · 15/09/2018 15:37

I’d use it in that situation tbh.

Sunflower321 · 16/09/2018 11:04

But Maximus would still end up as Max... I'd choose a different name to avoid both boys having to add a surname initial or become Big Max and Litthd Max etc, especially if they're likely to be in same class and sports club!
