Does anyone like the names either Afra or Astra for a girl? They seem a bit too out there but I like the sounds of them:)

Well an Astra is a crappy car, and Afra - well it's ok.

ReginaPhalange89 · 12/09/2018 20:22

Never heard Afra.... Astra makes me think of the car .

Sorry ! Not a fan of either

RomyAndJulio · 12/09/2018 20:23

I like Asta which is a Norwegian name, if that helps?

DramaAlpaca · 12/09/2018 20:24

Astra is a car.

The usual spelling of Afra is Aphra. It's not a name that appeals to me.

BeeBoBoop · 12/09/2018 20:24

I like em both-
Similar but more common:
Aurora
Elsa
Elsie
Also,
Aksa (Islamic name)

Sept18 · 12/09/2018 20:26

I like PPs spelling of Aphra

suckmasterburstingfoam · 12/09/2018 20:26

I hadn't heard of Afra but it's interesting. I like Astra. Nobody of your DD's age will have heard of the crappy car.

Praisebe · 12/09/2018 20:27

What about Astrid?

MikeUniformMike · 12/09/2018 20:29

Astra isn't a crappy car. They are excellent cars, reliable and roomy. They're even made in the UK.

TheKnightBus · 12/09/2018 20:42

Love Aphra!!!

Parpulous · 12/09/2018 20:49

My niece is called Afra - I think it's a beautiful name Smile

TheSheepofWallSt · 12/09/2018 20:50

Do you mean Aphra OP?

NellWilsonsWhiteHair · 12/09/2018 20:53

I really like Aphra (as in Behn), and also Asta as a PP has mentioned (I used to work with a Lithuanian one). I wouldn't personally choose the spelling Afra but there's nothing wrong with it. For me Astra is the car I'm afraid.

BusyBee27 · 12/09/2018 20:58

How about Aster (flower, I think!) or Aasta instead?

villainousbroodmare · 12/09/2018 21:01

If you have any Irish connections you could consider Aifric (pronounced Afric like Africa without the last a).

hobblesma · 12/09/2018 21:07

Nobody of your DD's age will have heard of the crappy car.

You do realise kids get older?

DemocracyDiesInDarkness · 12/09/2018 21:57

What I mean is, it's hardly a Lamborghini is it?

Sessy19 · 12/09/2018 22:33

Astra is a lovely name. And Asta. And Astrid. And Aphra (not heard it before).

Picknickers · 12/09/2018 22:49

Aphra is lovely.

Shadow1234 · 12/09/2018 22:58

I prefer Astra out of the two, but also like the suggestion of
Asta by a previous poster.

TempsPerdu · 12/09/2018 23:02

I like Asta/Aster and Aphra.

Goostacean · 12/09/2018 23:04

I know of an Astrid... neither name appeals to me personally, but they’re both inoffensive. I’m 27 and didn’t get the car reference.

NannyR · 12/09/2018 23:05

Aphra is quite nice and I love Astrid. Not keen on Astra though, the car is the first thing that comes to mind.

Sophronia · 12/09/2018 23:15

I like Aphra.

NameChangedNow · 13/09/2018 01:46

I love Aifric. Unfortunately no Irish heritage. Aphra is lovely.
