What does everyone think? OH and I really like it and like both Auggie and Gus as nicknames. However, I've mentioned it to friends who think its awful lol I loved the little boy Auggie in Wonder so that's probably helping me see it soo positively.
Also any girls name suggestions that are just as strong? Love Alexandra but don't think we could use it as it's in the family already x

Gloop

Sunflower321 · 10/09/2018 19:23

Love Augustus! Strong, classic and cool. It also reminds me of Wonder.

ProfessorMoody · 10/09/2018 19:23

Gloop!

Fairylea · 10/09/2018 19:23

Gloop. Sorry.

Seeyounexttue · 10/09/2018 19:23

I like it, but prefer August

DC06 · 10/09/2018 19:37

Ah yeah. I had to google Augustus Gloop but get why it may be an issue. Although I'm hoping it won't be an obvious link by the time DS is at school?x

Gus,Gussie, Gussett... no-one will call him Auggie... it's a nope from me I'm afraid.

Aprilshowersnowastorm · 10/09/2018 19:41

The film is decades old and he will be still known in decades to come!
Don't do it!!

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 10/09/2018 19:43

Gloop- aka: fat glutinous boy- don’t do it. Just name him Gus

SuperstarDJ · 10/09/2018 21:14

Gus is great. Augustus is not.

If you want a longer name with Gus as a nn what about Magnus or Angus?

Alicatz66 · 10/09/2018 21:26

Yep .. Gloop !
And the book is an absolute classic so will always be read .. don't do it OP !

ImTakingTheEssence · 10/09/2018 21:30

No!

LittleBearPad · 10/09/2018 21:46

Gus is lovely. Augustus isn’t so lovely but it could just be the birth certificate name.

Sophronia · 10/09/2018 22:03

I prefer August. Augie is cute.

morewinedarling · 10/09/2018 22:07

A friend of mine has an August and I like that! Although I think his official Swedish name is Augustus.

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 10/09/2018 22:09

I think it’s a belter. absolute ace name.

HOWEVER

the Gloop connection ruins it. You could put it as a birth cert name and have him forever known as Gus?

MariaMadita · 10/09/2018 22:19

I prefer August. It's also a bit less gloop-y...

How about Fergus nn Gus?

madeoficecream · 10/09/2018 22:21

I love it. Love all variations as well.
Augustine (after the saint) was almost our sons name but we changed our minds last minute!

Rebecca36 · 10/09/2018 22:23

No from me. Gus for short is nice but, knowing kids, he'll be called, "Gusset".

WakeUpFromYourDreamAndScream · 10/09/2018 22:24

It's ridiculous

Ngaio2 · 10/09/2018 22:24

I too think August is better. Auggie sounds a more natural nn or August than for Augustus.
However too me Gus is a dog’s name or from small town USA
I quite like Magnus but I think the school nn would be maggot.
Do you like Alexandria or Alexis or Alexia?
Octavia is a strong name.
Christina must be due a come back.
Good luck with your decision and I hope you have an easy birth

madeoficecream · 10/09/2018 22:25

for girls
Octavia
Olympia
Ariadne
Magdalena
Catherine
Adelaide
Adeline
Alethea
Athena
Artemis
Beatrice or Beatrix
Ianthe
Calliope

C0untDucku1a · 10/09/2018 22:26

I was also coming on to say gloop.

ConsiderHerWaysAndOthers · 10/09/2018 22:27

Awful. I doubt he, and more importantly his classmates will get through primary school without reading or watching Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. There’s even a musical... no way will it drop out of popular culture, Dahl is timeless!

I know a little girl called August though?!

NonaGrey · 10/09/2018 22:30

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is a classic children’s novel. It’s not going away ever.

August is better. Angus, Magnus, Fergus are all excellent names.
