Reading another thread suggestions on here 2 names came up that reminded me of a story MIL used to tell me So I thought I would share and also ask if others have amusing stories about names. (I don't mean rude name suggestions but funny things around it)

MIL and FIL had their oldest son who was with his middle names named after Paternal and Maternal grandfathers (think something Like William Charles) 3 years later SIL arrived and plenty family and friends asked " So will you do the same for the girl?" (maternal and paternal grand mothers names) MIL replied...
" Well which would you rather ? Minnie Winnie or Winnie Minnie?"

SIL's middlename is Anne Grin

@Liverpool23 she was someone that married into an Italian family we knew when we used to live in Canada in the late 90's/early 00's and she was around 30 as far as I can remember!

I once mentored a woman named Lucie Lucy, thankfully by marriage and not parents choice!

I worked for a parcel company many years ago. It was my job to type up the names the parcels had been signed for. If we got a name we thought wasn’t genuine we had to escalate it to our manager. I was absolutely gleeful one day when I came across a Ben Dova.

To verify the signature my manager called the customer, who politely validated the signatures with the response “oh that’s our Au Pair!”

I had to point out to my lovely but very unworldly friend and wife that the name "Lolita" had some connotations. Always glad I chose to mention it.

I used to work with a Brun Schidt which sounded too much like brown shit for us to be able to cope with maturely.

DesperatelySeekingSnoozing · 12/09/2018 18:44

I know a Michael Michael. He has a brother called George Michael too.

Pinkywoo · 12/09/2018 18:47

My friends brother is Paul Gaul, we didn't believe him for years!

Shadow I love that. My husband absolutely loves jack Daniels (I'm very partial to a few myself mind you).

When we were thinking about names, we chose Daniel for a boy. Dh jokingly said his middle name should be Jack. When the baby was born and we found out we had a boy, he then said if we ever had another son we should call him Jack. Then when we were all out he could call out "Jack", "Daniel", even though Daniel would be the elder child.
Or if we'd had twin boys we should have called them Jack and Daniel.
He was joking but it made me laugh at the time (and fancy a few).

Cosmoa · 12/09/2018 19:10

I know a few Jack Daniels as well!

weebarra · 12/09/2018 19:15

I went to school with a David Davidson. He was the youngest of four so maybe his parents ran out of names. As a young careers adviser I also came across pupils called Isla White and Paul McCartney.

Growing up in Scandinavia names like Lars Larsen Peter Petersen and Anders Andersen are pretty normal for me.

My maidenname in English is slang for male genitalia
My parents drew straws over my name my father won had my mother won I would have been called Fanny.

Pretty sure I would not have remained in the UK for long.

I know a Gerald Fitzgerald and a Brian O'Brien. Why????

KateAlexander · 12/09/2018 21:08

A girl in my sisters’ year at school was called Kim. Her second name was Burley.

So her full name (out loud) was basically: Kimberley

Why?!

My mother also works with Mr Rash and his first name is William... so he is: willy rash Grin

AlecOrAlonzo · 13/09/2018 00:11

I know loads of guys called Donald Macdonald. It's really common here.

My auntie lived next door to Mr and Mrs Daft. I love that.

Liverpool23 · 13/09/2018 09:49

@sluj - My sister dated a man many years ago - they split up and married different people. He had a baby with his wife and called her Lolita - they have a son too with an equally silly name but that might be too identifying to say it on here, sigh!

Bentley10 · 13/09/2018 11:28

My sister was at uni with a Turkish girl called Tuna Kunt.

Genuinely.

HumbleCrumble · 13/09/2018 11:38

I knew a woman whose married name was Frances Dickie. Funnily enough she chose not to use Fanny as a nickname!

Cosmoa · 13/09/2018 11:55

@Enko haha that made me laugh!.
I used to work for a company taking enquiries (before my maternity leave)
Some of the names that made me laugh were..
Gary Slopper
Pasquale Gibbons
Januita Bacon (kinda sounded like wanna eat a bacon)
Giorgio Giovio
Maria Mehboob
Dave Cave
Dick Plant

My Grandfather was called Robert Roberts. I had assumed for a long time he was the youngest in his large family, but he was the first son, so I don't know what my Great-Grandparents were thinking. He went by Robin.

I did genuinely go to sixth form with twins called Kim and Lydia, I am assuming that chlamydia was less well known in the mid-80s when they were born.

My dad insists he went to school with a boy called Nigel Nigel, which I personally think is child abuse.

PrincessWire · 13/09/2018 15:29

Well Phil and Gary Neville's dad is famously called Neville Neville so I'll believe a lot of these!

weegiemum · 13/09/2018 15:31

A nurse friend told me that many years ago she looked after a bay of 6 beds in a men's medical ward in the highlands, and 5 of them were called Donald Macdonald. Three of them were Donald John and were in for support with alcohol detox!
