Reading another thread suggestions on here 2 names came up that reminded me of a story MIL used to tell me So I thought I would share and also ask if others have amusing stories about names. (I don't mean rude name suggestions but funny things around it)

MIL and FIL had their oldest son who was with his middle names named after Paternal and Maternal grandfathers (think something Like William Charles) 3 years later SIL arrived and plenty family and friends asked " So will you do the same for the girl?" (maternal and paternal grand mothers names) MIL replied...
" Well which would you rather ? Minnie Winnie or Winnie Minnie?"

SIL's middlename is Anne Grin

I loved the name Bianca (I’m Italian), and it was heading for the top of my girls name list like a rocket, when I was pregnant.

Then my SIL told me that DH’s surname means Blacksmith in their native language.

Making my DD effectively ‘White Blacksmith’ by name. Doh!

Could’ve thrown in Violet as a middle name to top it off, right? Grin

Haha!

When my parents were trying to think of a girls name for my older sister (their first born) my Dad said to my Mum.. "I really like the name Sy-oh-ban" and my Mum was like "what?! How do you spell that"

He meant Siobhan 😂😂😂

(oh and once he realised it was pronounced 'Shevawn' he didn't like it anymore haha)

My mother knew a Mrs Berry. She said if her expected baby was a boy she’d call him Barry. However sense prevailed and she called him Garry

My dentist is called Mark Clark. Goodness know what his parents were thinking....

I went once with my university boyfriend to open a student bank account. “So Mr Gray” they asked him, “What was your mother before she was Gray?”, “ Green” he said.

I love Mark Clark :) it has quite a " ring" to it.. Grin

There's the fantastic story about a couple wanting to give their child a Welsh name, and they'd seen a place name that they liked on a sign. In the same vein as Brooklyn, India and Paris, they named their child Allanfa Dân.

Which is Welsh for Fire Exit.

BlueChampagne · 11/09/2018 11:46

My son went to school with a 'Jack Daniels'. His name
certainly made him stand out from the rest.

Any funny combo's once you get married?
Back in the 60's my great aunt's best friend was called Anna Hannah.
I looked after twins about ten years ago in a nursery with the surname Death, when they got to school age the parents changed it to ''De-Ath'' - come on - children are not stupid!
I also work now with a John Johnson but I actually quite like that, it works for him!

*'No you don't'

Pretty sure I do, but thanks for vetting the people I know 🙄

Liverpool23 · 12/09/2018 16:09

@Cosmoa
Haha - That is interesting! I'm not sure of how old Svetlana Dalalana is but I think if Anna Hannah got married today she would have just kept her maiden name, guess it was the less popular thing to do in the 60's!

I suppose I could add that when I get married my initials will be B.J - HELP ( I am thinking of reclaiming my 2 middle names to make it not so bloody obvious!)

WakeUpFromYourDreamAndScream · 12/09/2018 16:17

I went to school with a Richard Richardson

If you say so. Tell her friends Chlymidia and La-a we say hi.

LMDC · 12/09/2018 17:11

I used to work with a Kelly Kelly (by marriage).

TyrionLannistersShadow · 12/09/2018 17:19

I went to primary school with a boy called Loughlin O'Loughlin, I mean seriously what were his parents thinking!

BaronessBomburst · 12/09/2018 17:22

I had a great aunt called Ivy S who married a J Ivemy. I think I was 20 before I realised that Ivy Ivemy was actually her name, and not some daft quirk of my mother's. Grin

The Dutch like to alliterate names. Things like Gerry Gerritson, Frank Franks, Geert Geertson, Pieter Peeters are quite normal here.
