Do I use a Kardashian name?

For a girl I love the name Rain/Reign/Reine (not sure how I’d spell it) but baby daddy is reluctant as it’s one of Kourtney Kardashians kids and he thinks that people will just assume she’s named after that...which she’s not!! What are your views? X

The bad grammar in baby Daddy, baby Mummy is infantile and why emulate something incorrect? What's wrong with "my child's father" or "Johnny's Dad?"

TatianaLarina · 11/09/2018 20:15

Except no-one mentioned cultural appropriation they just said sneering at the term was racist.

It’s a point that’s been made many, many times on MN which does not have the best record on race.

passwordfailure · 11/09/2018 20:30

Tat - which do you prefer? Baby daddy or my child's dad?

MrsFoxPlus4 · 12/09/2018 02:26

I think using any of Kourtneys kids names can be seen as pretty normal. However if you called your child Dream, True, Stormi Ect it’s pretty specific to the Kardashian’s odd name choices

Hi guys I’m the OP, but I had to create a new account for various reasons. I’m young and so the term baby daddy was one I used (probably because one of my favourite TV shows is Baby Daddy- a US sitcom). I’m very sorry for any hassle that I have caused, I in no ways knew this was somehow racist! And if it was I am so sorry because I’m completely against that. Anyway to everyone else thank you so much for your comments, Raine is definitely going neat the top of the List! Sorry again and thanks for all the replies xx

BusterGonad · 13/09/2018 02:45

Rungirl don't apologize, you like the word baby daddy, some of us don't, it's not a problem, and imo it isn't racist to like it or dislike it, some people getting offended by anything, do not worry about it for one second!

BusterGonad · 13/09/2018 02:46

Oh and Raine is a lovely name!

AuntieStella · 13/09/2018 06:50

It's simply part of the MN dialect - it's a shibboleth term, along with hubs, bubba, pink/blue babies manshape etc, plus referring to adult women as girls.

OrdinarySnowflake · 13/09/2018 07:39

Op, if your baby's father really doesn't like the idea of a Kardashian name, but otherwise likes it and you don't want him to be unhappy about his Dd's name, the suggestion of Lorraine on the birth certificate, but known in the family as Raine is a good compromise. It gives her an option to use her full name as an adult if the Kardashian Rain ends up being super trashy famous.

Definately talk about Raine Spencer! Might help redefine it as posh not tacky in his mind !!!

TatianaLarina · 13/09/2018 08:28

It’s not racist to use the term OP, it’s fine.

The issue was with the sneering and nose-wrinkling posters, ignorant of the cultural context.

TatianaLarina · 13/09/2018 08:35

At least I hope it was ignorance.

imo it isn't racist to like it or dislike it, some people getting offended by anything

Yeah fancy BME people finding denigration of their culture offensive.

Rungirl42 · 13/09/2018 10:11

Thanks guys, I just didn’t want to upset anyone

RosiesYellowDress · 13/09/2018 13:03

It is acceptable to tell someone to fuckoff still?

@tat this is beyond a ‘roxanne’ moment. In fact you doing a injustice to those who fight tooth and nail against racism.

It’s a none fucking issue that you don’t even have a barrel to scrap the bottom off. Btw you never did give any opinion on the OP question.

TatianaLarina · 13/09/2018 14:21

Who do you think you are to determine what is an isn’t an issue?

I’ve seen posters upset by contemptuous comments on babymother/father, and having to explain its genesis. And there have been several quite shockingly racist threads on here recently.

Snoopychildminder · 13/09/2018 14:48

Wow 😮

This has been an interesting thread.

I really like Raine, I imagine a little boho girl with plaits in her hair. I wouldn’t think about Kardashians.

I used to look after a little girl called Reina and I always thought it was really pretty

DelilahandDaisy · 13/09/2018 16:07

Yes, thanks Tatiana, I know the etymology of the expression. Many of those cultures find the term offensive though, so not sure why disliking it is automatically jumped on as racism. The word is a lazy stereotype and that is why many people do not like it.

RosiesYellowDress · 13/09/2018 18:39

@tat

passwordfailure · 13/09/2018 20:20
