Funky middle name for Mary

Hello!

Mary as first name- it's traditional, iconic feminine name, a little austere and old fashioned maybe, so we'd like a really interesting (funky!) middle name to go with it - (also lots of names after Mary sound like a two parter- IE Mary Beth, Mary Kate) nothing biblical we already have that covered

So far we only have three
Mary Alba
Mary Summer
Mary Freya

I also like
Mary Rose
The fact it's a ship makes me smile

Surname is long but very pretty/ girly so we can take something unusual in the middle but shorter is better.

Any more suggestions??

Would you consider Balonz?

Redteapot67 · 06/09/2018 00:13

I like Mary blue!

Sigh. You’ll never listen over Mary Rose..!

Zoflorabore · 06/09/2018 02:17

My dd's middle name is Albertine, after my late dgm who was German.

We've never heard of another with the same name.
Dd has a 4 letter name too and it works lovely together :)

Mary Margaret O'hara Grin

I love Mary as a name but tbh honest I wouldn't do Mary Rose.
I quite like Mary Margot as a PP said.

I think Balonz has to be on the list- if we did it then I think at least the Daily Fail would cover it Wink

I wonder - maybe all those male Balonzes could help with this - whether there is a feminine version of the name? Balonzina? Balonzara? Balonzia? Balonzitia?

Mary Esmeralda
Mary Mallory
Mary Tallulah
Mary Jade
Mary Violetta
Mary Valentine

I'd also like to throw in Laeticia (Lettice), Cicely, Vivienne, Viviana and Venetia.

lottiegarbanzo · 06/09/2018 09:33

and Jocelyn, Phyllis, Myrtle, Mabel and Sybil.

LemonysSnicket · 06/09/2018 09:35

Mary rose is too close to Marie Rose... the sauce

PetraRabbit · 06/09/2018 11:37

I like Mary Alba a lot! I really would avoid a typical 2018 type name like Sophia or Amelia as it takes away from the originality of Mary. I think you have 3 options. Firstly to go with another M...I liked the suggestion of Mary Margot but couldn't think of anything better- you have go be careful as so many M names are variations of Mary. Or something long, feminine and grand like Mary Valentina? Mary Paloma? Mary Evangelina? Mary Seraphina? Or something very modern, more of a word than a name- a previous suggestion was Mary Wren. I think Mary Love, or Mary True work really well. They sound modern but they are also universal virtues that fit with Mary. French word middle names like Reine or Soleil would also sound nice.

PickledElectricity · 06/09/2018 11:39

Mary Electra

Mary Margaret is a combination on my family tree - quite a few Peggys :)
I think Wren really works as does Millicent...

short - Jude, Blake, Alex, Bobbie

long - Elizabeth (not funky but lots of options), Katharine - I was supposed to be mary Katherine but no pretty surname !

So true. I personally wouldn't use Marian title either. Well, unless j was deliberately going for a Catholic combo/name. (Africa, Amabel, Pilar, Mercede, Assunta Dolores/Lola, Paz/Pax etc...).

moredoll · 06/09/2018 13:22

Mary Lou

MumUnderTheMoon · 06/09/2018 14:03

James, Tabitha, Kestra, Adeline, Arabella, Astrid it depends on your surname and how it sounds as a whole.

lottiegarbanzo · 06/09/2018 14:16

Keziah, Callista, Phaedra, Terpsichore, Clarice, Cloris, Clodagh, Mirabelle
