Any Formula 1 fans out there? Boy names....

Title says it all really! My other half comes from a family obsessed with formula 1...he was named after Senna and there's a couple more F1 names in his close relatives.

I'd love to carry on the tradition but don't know if it just sounds absurd. I love the idea of Jenson, but is that too much? With a father named Ayrton? 😂

His favourite driver is Kimi Raikkonen...I'm still not convinced by Kimi as a boys name! His argument is it's a very common boys name in Finland. My point...IN FINLAND.

Guess I'm just asking for F1 names that maybe aren't as obvious but still niche? Asking the earth, I know. Any ideas welcome!

I think the F1 drivers list gives an awesome set of names to choose from - but agree that for the uk Kimi isn't right. I'm sure I remember that in the UK we don't even say it properly.

Sebastian, Nico are favourites of mine name wise

MrsMoastyToasty · 03/09/2018 07:59

We had Murray, Ross and Stirling on our shortlist . DH is a massive F1 fan and is Scottish so the names would have worked.

How about
Adrian (Sutil)
Jolyon (Palmer)
Brendon (Hartley)

Peachbubble · 03/09/2018 08:02

I know two little boys called Jenson. I wouldn't class either as "naughty", maybe a little cheeky at times!

What about Marshal(l) (as in flag waver) or Victor (as in the victor).

Hasn't Ayrton Senna got a nephew called Bruno? And how about Nelson Piquet, Otto Stuppacher, Alain Prost, Timo Glock, Mario Andretti. You might have to be very brave in chosing some of these!

AtSea1979 · 03/09/2018 08:10

What F1 names have already been given to other family members? Subtle ones like Michael or Lewis? Or less so?

blamethecat · 03/09/2018 08:21

Jenson is fairly mainstream and not so obviously F1 unless people know you're fans.
I love sebastian as a name but don't like Vettel and didn't want anyone thinking we'd named ds after him flippin ds is a Ferrari fan so it's good job
Ross is a nice option, I have massive respect for him.
Alex (zanardi)
You can always go with one of the more out there names for a middle name !

Indoraptor · 03/09/2018 08:24

I may be hugely out of date but if Reubens is after Barrichello then it is actual spelt Rubens

bellinisurge · 03/09/2018 08:27

I recently met a Jenson and a Hamilton. Pretty silly names imho.
Now Enzo ... that is hardcore and cool. Also know a female Shelby.

MimiSunshine · 03/09/2018 08:32

Jenson is very popular now (or is near me in the midlands) I hear one at nursery and every play group we go to.

How about
Daniel (Ricciardo)
Max (Verstappen)
Lewis (Hamilton)
Romain (Grosjean)
Marcus (Ericsson)
Jules (Bianchi)

Sessy19 · 03/09/2018 08:40

Against the grain here, but I think Jenson is a truly hideous name. I certainly wouldn’t call it mainstream. It sounds made up and try-hard.
A young girl I worked with called her sons Jenson and Beckham. Awful.

thismeansnothing · 03/09/2018 08:43

Bruno (senna)
Roman/Romain (grosean)
James (hunt)
Esteban (ocon)
Alain (Prost)
Jean (alesi)
Nick (heidfeld)
Luca (badoer)
Mark (blundell/Webber)
Eddie (Irvine)
Alex/Alexander (wurst/zinardi)
Jack (brabham)
Ralph (Schumacher)
Jacques (villeneuve)
Jolyon (palmer)
David (coulthard)
Nelson (piquet)
Lance (stroll)

And these are just the ones off the top of my head. Loads to choose from

JillCrewesmum · 03/09/2018 08:48

Enzo is great

Jensen is awful

2gorgeousboys · 03/09/2018 09:04

I know someone with boys named Jensen and Ayrton.

Could you use one of the more out there names as a middle name? Ds1 is named after a sports star from a team out whole family is crazy about but it's a middle name so he only has to tell people if he wants to. He thinks it's cool at the moment but might not always!

Flamingosnbears · 03/09/2018 09:15

Sebastian all the way for me.... ♥

IMissMargaritas · 03/09/2018 09:37

This thread is officially one of my favourites. So many great ideas!

DP has Vito'd some of the more obvious ones like...

Michael - whilst respecting him as the worlds greatest driver, he hated Shumacher!
Lewis - my surname already
Daniel - too many in our families
Bruno - unfortunately name of that bloody Sacha Baron Cohen character

@Ginnotgym that's awesome! What does your husband do? A girl in my year at school is currently an aerodynamicist for Red Bull. LOVE stalking her Facebook...and my DP chewed her ear off all night at a friends party once 😂 poor girl.

@AtSea1979 between us both we have Emerson, Daniel, Tatzio and Lewis :)

Ginnotgym · 03/09/2018 09:51

@IMissMargaritas he's also an Aerodynamicist, but works for F1 after 15 years of working for various teams. He REGULARLY gets both ears chewed off at parties (but secretly loves it).

Fans always ask 3 questions:

  1. Do you go to the races (yes, but thankfully more for fun these days )
  2. Do you know the drivers (yes - but mainly those who have driven for teams he has worked for)
  3. Have you driven the cars (no - he's too tall, and hardly anyone does other than the drivers)
MimiSunshine · 03/09/2018 11:19

If your surname is Lewis then I’d say that was a great choice all round

IMissMargaritas · 03/09/2018 11:21

@Ginnotgym ha...those were all questions DP asked my friend! She had pretty much the same answers...except I don't think she goes to many races aside from Silverstone. She's based in Milton Keynes with the rest of the team!

Jules is slowly growing on me ☺️ lovely little tribute and very subtle.

Ragh · 03/09/2018 12:26

Heinz-Harald (Frentzen)
Ralf (Schumacher)
Aston (Martin)
Frank (Williams)
Murray (Walker)
Christian (Horner)
Adrian (Newey)
David (Coulthard)

Or get ahead of the curve and name him Mick - Michael Schumacher's 19 year old son, currently 4th in Formula 3

janaus · 03/09/2018 12:44

Christian - Horner
Kyle - Bus h
Jack Brabham
Nelson - Piquet
Emerson - Fittipaldi
Damon - Hill
Are my favourites

KellyMarieTunstall2 · 03/09/2018 12:48

I've got an Emerson (Fitapaldi) of my own.

IMissMargaritas · 03/09/2018 13:06

@KellyMarieTunstall2 his brother is called Emerson and he loves his name :) we all call him Emmo. You see the F1 fans smirk when they hear of brothers called Ayrton and Emerson 😂

IMissMargaritas · 03/09/2018 13:15

I think Lando may have just made its way onto the table 😂

I know a couple with surname Williams, named their DS Jordan.

I did ask if his middle name was Maclaren but I got a very frosty look Grin

Anotherloverholeinyohead · 03/09/2018 13:44

Dp is a huge F1 fan and wanted to give DS the middle name of Da Silva. It was a no from me! We settled on a more main stream F1 name for DS1 and a MOTO GP related name for DS2. Both boys race motorbikes - DP says they have fuel through their veins instead of blood!

I know a little lad called Jenson - lovely little boy

Anotherloverholeinyohead · 03/09/2018 13:51

oh and DS2's name is probably one of the most unliked names on MN referred to as being a "chavvy and naughty boy" name - I don't care but he is very proud of where his name came from.
