Brush.

Sorry.

MatchsticksForMyEyesReturns · 30/08/2018 22:09

Fawlty. Immediately. Sorry, I couldn't.

venys · 30/08/2018 22:10

I actually like it and think it's cute.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 30/08/2018 22:12

I know a lovely little boy called Basil. I think it's a nice name.

PhoebeFriends · 30/08/2018 22:12

I like it - I know one young Basil - it suits him!

3luckystars · 30/08/2018 22:13

No

sonlypuppyfat · 30/08/2018 22:13

Never in a million years

MikeUniformMike · 30/08/2018 22:13

It's great.

Mossend · 30/08/2018 22:15

I know a Basil and instantly thought Brush when I heard.
But I think the younger you are the less association you'd have with that

Topseyt · 30/08/2018 22:15

I think it is nice, though I would be wary of the connection with Basil Brush or Basil Fawlty.

Thesearepearls · 30/08/2018 22:16

I don't really like it sorry. The immediate association is Basil Fawlty. Fun to laugh at. Don't mind the Basil Brush association because at least we laugh with BB rather than at him.

MeyMary · 30/08/2018 22:17

Oh, thanks!

I saw it today (in a newspaper article) and just felt like it might be absolutely perfect.

It's clearly masculine without sounding choppy, works in English and German, isn't likely to be mispronounced and I've never met a Basil I hated (Wink)

DH said it was one of my "better suggestions" but he's not as convinced as I currently seem to be...

Terrible.

MollyHuaCha · 30/08/2018 22:19

I like it.

huggybear · 30/08/2018 22:20

Alright in a pasta sauce, not so much as a name.

Milkmonster2 · 30/08/2018 22:20

I do really love it! But I wouldn't be brave enough myself

Kidssendingmenuts · 30/08/2018 22:20

It's a cats name.... sorry but it's shit x

MeyMary · 30/08/2018 22:22

And an other point in Basil's favour is the fact that my Italian relatives could pronounce it as well...

I don't know who or what Basil Brush is. I'll ask DH :)

hotstepper4 · 30/08/2018 22:23

It's cute but everyone will call him Baz and those who don't know will assume his name is Barry

huggybear · 30/08/2018 22:23

A comedy fox (is it a fox?!)

BackforGood · 30/08/2018 22:25

I would have to say it in the voice of Basil Fawlty's wife, every time I saw it. I know the series was written / made many decades ago, but it is iconic - my dc think Fawlty Towers is hilarious. I don't think the character will be forgotten any time soon.

I love Basil Brush - I've seen him live

BlueSky198080 · 30/08/2018 22:25

Faulty Towers
Basil Brush

Just no. Please do not inflict that on your child.

MyWorstSelf · 30/08/2018 22:26

I LOVE it!

MeyMary · 30/08/2018 22:27

@huggybear

It is a fox according to DH. He apparently didn't feel like it was a particularly negative or prominent association... (Seems like Mumsnetters disagree?)

I love it! Does make me think of the Herbs/Parsley the Lion (I am Sir Basil, king of the Herbs...) but that’s no bad thing!
