Hi all,

I put a post on the other day that we had narrowed names down to 2 for our first little one due in oct (boy).

We both work in schools so want a unique name we wont come across lots in years to come. We now have 5 on the list again, i know they wont be everyones cup of tea as not traditional and some bit wild but be good to hear thoughts :)

Oscar
Ezra
Ozzie
Hugo
Buddy

Thanks! Confused be nice.... haha

Oscar- seems quite common atm. I don't like it but everyone else seems to!
Ezra- again, I hear this a lot. It's nice but written down, I always think it looks like a girls' name
Ozzie- Osborne
Hugo- please pick Hugo!!
Buddy- no.

Goostacean · 24/08/2018 23:45

Oscar - bit mundane for my tastes, although I know a lovely one! He’s 28.
Ezra - this is SO COOL. Seriously. Love it!
Ozzie - sounds like a nn. And I think Ozzy Osbourne... Mm, it’s a no from me.
Hugo - again, love it!
Buddy - very American. Are you American? It’ll sound a bit odd in the U.K., in my view.

None are terrible! :) —please choose Ezra!—

Goostacean · 24/08/2018 23:45

Strikethrough fail...

Goostacean · 24/08/2018 23:46

Haha, consensus of two on Hugo and Ezra, it seems!

SuperstarDJ · 24/08/2018 23:48

Ozzie and Buddy are nicknames plus I think Buddy would be a bit ridiculous on anyone past the age of 10. Ezra & Hugo are good.

Oscar is dull as it’s very popular.

GinPink · 24/08/2018 23:48

Oscar - not keen but don't hate it
Ezra - I quite like it but i would think
'Those parents were trying too hard to be different!
Ozzie - I dint like it
Hugo - love
Buddy - really detest this

Jnl90 · 24/08/2018 23:49

Thanks so far everyone.

Nope defo english so can see how buddy seems very 'american' now you have said it!

*don't

DiegoMadonna · 24/08/2018 23:51

I love Ezra.
I quite like Oscar.
Hugo is blah
I hate Ozzie and Buddy.

EmmaC78 · 24/08/2018 23:58

Hugo and Oscar are fine. I dislike the other three.

Greeneyedgeek83 · 25/08/2018 00:01

Ezra is by far the best. Not keen on any of the others

finallychangedmyusername · 25/08/2018 00:14

Oscar is lovely, as is Ezra.

Sophronia · 25/08/2018 02:57

Oscar, Ezra or Hugo. Definitely not Ozzie or Buddy, which sound like pets names.

Ginandplatonic · 25/08/2018 03:01

Hugo or Ezra

Not Buddy

woodfires · 25/08/2018 03:16

Buddy is an American dog name. Ozzie isn't an adult sounding name. The other three are fine.

TheDowagerCuntess · 25/08/2018 03:34

Would you want to be called Buddy full time, OP?!

Nevermindhey · 25/08/2018 07:01

I love the name Buddy ... for a dog.

Don’t mind Oscar. I only know one but thinks it’s quite popular.

Peachbubble · 25/08/2018 07:07

I vote for Hugo

Cbeebiesrehab · 25/08/2018 07:08

Your list has three names that are definitely not unique but nice enough and two that he probably won’t encounter duplicates of but are a bit moreHmm so it depends on what is more important for you?
Oscar is top 10 so popular. Ezra is very of the moment and will probably date quickly. Hugo is nice enough but not unusual.
Ozzie makes me think Osborne.
Buddy makes me think of Tom and Giovana Fletcher-not a bad association but makes the name a bit ‘sleb’ to me.
Oscar nn Ozzie?

AnElderlyLadyOfMediumHeight · 25/08/2018 07:16

Oscar is the only OK one in my view. Ezra appears to be trendy atm - my impression is it's quite hipster. But all I can think of is Ezra Pound, and IIRC he wasn't a nice individual. I'm not keen on Hugo - it's the name of a drink (prosecco and fruit juice) here in Germany, and apart from that I find it rather cutesy. Please, please, please do not call your son Ozzie or Buddy. Trust me, he will resent you for it, and probably sooner rather than later.

MorrisDancingViv · 25/08/2018 07:17

Oscar was the 10th most popular boys name in England & Wales in 2016 so it's no where near unique and if you haven't taught one yet you most likely will in the near future.

Ezra has also broken into the Top 100 names and is rapidly rising. I would expect it was more popular in 2017 (stats haven't come out yet)

Hugo was apparently the 50th most popular name in 2016.

Ozzie and Buddy are way down on the stats but Buddy is becoming more popular. I know a primary aged Buddy, I quite like it. Ozzie is fine if it's used as a diminutive, could work as a diminutive for Oscar.

JW1226 · 25/08/2018 07:23

Ezra 💙

MiniMaxi · 25/08/2018 07:25

Hugo or Oscar!

flumpybear · 25/08/2018 07:29

Buddie and Ozzie are nick names and not adult names ShockConfused
Hugo is different
Ezra - George Ezra
Oscar - loads if then around

Nemophilist · 25/08/2018 07:38

I like Hugo and Ezra from your list the others are meh.
