Bridget?

Looking for a strong, not too girly name.

We really like Bridget and love the nickname Bridie (don't like Biddie though).

Also on our list are Nancy, Susannah (Susie), Caroline and Enid.

Any honest opinions?

And Margot! (missed that one off the list)

I love it.

Her nickname would be ‘Bridge’ though - see Bridget Jones diary

Sophronia · 23/08/2018 15:02

I love Susannah and Caroline and like Enid. Bridget is ok. Not keen on Nancy.

StoatOfManyColours · 23/08/2018 15:04

Nancy, Susannah and Margot are all great.

Bridget is very dowdy and sturdy.
Caroline is v 70s.
Enid is just not a nice sound. Down there with Agatha for me.

Go with one of the first three, they're fab.

TatianaLarina · 23/08/2018 15:05

I love the Bridie, not keen on Bridget. I would just call her Bridie.

Also love Nancy. Margot is nice but it’s super-popular right now.

TroubledLichen · 23/08/2018 15:05

I don’t dislike Bridgit but I much prefer Nancy and Margot.

AnyaMoondial · 23/08/2018 15:47

Love Bridget.

implantsandaDyson · 23/08/2018 16:34

Not a fan of Bridget - desperately old fashioned where I am - I’d have Bridget in with Assumpta, Maureen, Bernadette. She’s the classmate/ neighbour/auntie that couldn’t wait to tell your Mum that she’d seen you with your skirt rolled up and maybe with a boy Shock. It’s a go to Confirmation name (points with the granny but of no real use).
I really like Susannah.

Smoliver · 23/08/2018 16:55

I love Bridget! It's on my list too, as well as Margot and Nancy.

bridgetreilly · 23/08/2018 16:56

Well, I approve!

I think it's lovely and Bridie is very sweet.

thelastshihtzu · 23/08/2018 16:58

I really wanted to name our baby Bridget but my husband wasn't keen. I think it is a fabulous name.

mammmamia · 23/08/2018 17:02

There are so many names that are nicer IMO. I love Margot. So classy.

greendale17 · 23/08/2018 17:03

I like it.

Really don’t like Susannah, Enid or Caroline

schnubbins · 23/08/2018 17:11

Love Bridget but Caroline is perfect

LIVIA999 · 23/08/2018 17:33

I have an auntie bridie and an auntie breege ( both Bridget's) one of my granny's was Bridget too.
I think it's sweet!

MrsMolehillMountain · 23/08/2018 17:56

Margot is beautiful.
All the others are a bit...'matronly'

FreezerBird · 23/08/2018 17:59

My sister's called Bridget. Never been known as Bridge, by the simple expedient of telling people she doesn't want to be.

I have a name with a similar shortening (is becomes a noun not a name) which I dislike and similarly no one uses it because I ask them not to. It's not hard.

ReginaPhalange89 · 23/08/2018 18:09

Oh wow they're all a bit too old fashioned for me, sorry ! Nancy or Susannah , but even those arent my favourite

OutPinked · 23/08/2018 18:13

Bridget Jones’ Diary.

I like Margot a lot.

wineandcatsandlego · 23/08/2018 18:33

Love love love nancy

daisypond · 23/08/2018 18:33

I'm not keen on Bridget - it's a bit stolid and dumpy to me.
I really like Susannah and Caroline. Margot is nice as well.

Rainatnight · 23/08/2018 18:36

I'd have said no, but I know a little Bridget and she's kind of cool.

AtticaRose · 24/08/2018 08:37

I like Caroline and Margot best, then Bridget.

I'm personally not keen on Nancy, seems too nnicknamey to me somehow, but there's nothing wrong with it!

SparkyBlue · 24/08/2018 08:42

I know an absolutely gorgeous almost six year old Bridget. She was born on Feb 1st which is St Bridget's day. My mil was Bridie and I would use it if I had another daughter

Bristolgal · 24/08/2018 09:52

Bridget is sweet! I love Caroline, Susannah and Margot too. Not keen on Nancy and Enid.
