Hi,

Does anyone have any suggestions for any sweet old fashioned name for a little girl?

We are trying to get some ideas for names for our baby girl due late November.

Thanks! 🤩❤️

I know it probably doesn’t sound ‘old fashioned’ as much as ‘70s/80s’ but I’ve always found the name Lindsey to be really pretty

Matilda
Martha
Aubrey
Briony

Aubrey is an old fashioned man’s name, Shadow. Using it for females is a very modern American trend.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 18/09/2018 10:24

Josephine (Posy).

Madmaryboddington: oops, didnt realise! Thanks for that.
Perhaps i should have said Audrey?? Cant recall spelling.

MadMaryBoddington · 18/09/2018 10:59

Yes you’re probably thinking of Audrey. I have a little Audrey as it happens 😊

A lovely old name I've come across in my family tree is Jennet.

It's 'Old English' and later mutated into Janet, Jane and Jennie - but Jennet itself was a fairly widely used name up until the 1800s and means 'God is Gracious'.

It is pronounced as written - 'Jen - net' not like Jeannette which has a different linguistic root (French / Scottish) - Jean is the Scottish form of Jane.

Skyejuly · 18/09/2018 12:50

Jennet reminds me of the girl whose evidence got some women in trouble in Pendle hill.

:-)

Jennet looks weird to me personally. I prefer Jannet(te). Or Jane :)
Jane is adorable and underused imo...

Sungura · 19/09/2018 02:36

@AlReef Glad this made you laugh! 😂😅😆 Tempest is a name that came into use in the middle 1800s and was popular until the 1920s. I try to list names to suit many tastes. This one makes me thinks of Shakespeare's play, as it may other name lovers.
