Imogen or Delilah...

We're down to these two names.

I adore the name Delilah. I know it has certain negative biblical connotations - these don't bother me personally, but would they colour your view of a person called Delilah?

Dh likes Delilah but thinks Imogen is a safer choice. I also like Imogen, though I'm not keen on 'Imi' (I much prefer Lilah as a nickname).

If we go with Imogen, then we'll probably use Delilah as the middle name.

If we go with Delilah, then we want a middle name that doesn't start with a vowel, so were thinking Delilah Tegan/Delilah Margot/Delilah Maeve.

Any opinions?

Like Imogen but love Delilah/Lilah. The negative biblical connotation doesn't occur to me when I hear it. My favourite middle name is Margot.

moredoll · 20/08/2018 04:53

Imogen.

ReginaPhalange89 · 20/08/2018 05:09

I personally prefer Delilah , but I think that's because I know a really sweet little Delilah.

ShanghaiDiva · 20/08/2018 05:20

Prefer Imogen.

Sammyham88 · 20/08/2018 05:32

Not a fan of Delilah as it reminds me of the song " hey there delilah" and the singer turned out to be massive stalker/ creep...

SuperstarDJ · 20/08/2018 05:58

I love Delilah. I can’t convince DH as he thinks that she’ll have the Tom Jones song sung at her at regular intervals throughout her life and I fear he may be right.

I also love Imogen and the only reason ive vetoed it off my list is that I keep hearing/reading how popular it is though I’ve yet to meet one.

Delilah Maeve or Imogen Delilah.

Sorry, I’m no help Grin

Whyiseveryonesoangry · 20/08/2018 06:25

Imogen is my favourite name.
I really like the idea of using Delilah as a middle name with it.
Delilah could be shorted to Del by her friends, do you like that?
I had a friend at college called Delyth and she very quickly became Del Boy.

deptfordgirl · 20/08/2018 06:29

I do like the sound of Delilah but yes, I do associate it with the Biblical character. Imogen is very pretty.

Quangot · 20/08/2018 08:37

I like Delilah, with Della as nickname.

Not quite so keen on the middle names but any of them would flow well with Delilah. I will also throw in suggestions of Delilah Genevieve, Delilah Naomi or Delilah Megan.

Cbeebiesrehab · 20/08/2018 08:55

I really like Delilah. I think it’s beautiful and more likely to be associated with the popular songs than the bible nowadays-but I don’t think that matters and certainly wouldn’t be enough to put me off.
Don’t really like Imogen-find it a bit blah.

SmilingButClueless · 20/08/2018 08:57

Prefer Imogen but that’s because I can’t get past the Tom Jones song. Not sure any of her peers would know the song though!

RedDwarves · 20/08/2018 09:39

I like Delilah more, but having spent many years of my life at a Catholic school, I wouldn't be able to move beyond the Biblical connotations. I would group it in with names like Lilith, Jezebel, Judas etc. Those who have any religious upbringing/affiliation (and I am atheist) will automatically associate the name with the Biblical figure.

TatianaLarina · 20/08/2018 09:44

Not many people have a religious upbringing these days.

Imogen and Delilah are equally great. I don’t know which I’d choose.

IVflytrap · 20/08/2018 10:11

I prefer Delilah over Imogen, although both are nice. I don't know anyone with either name. How about Lilah on its own?

ladycarlotta · 20/08/2018 10:34

You never ever ever have to use the nn Imi. Never. Outing myself, as it's not a common name in my age group, but I am an Imogen and the people who tried to call me Imi learnt pretty fast not to. I hate it. It's a horrible infantilisation of a strong name.

My NNs are Imo or Gin. But I go by my full name usually, it's not hard.

Flamingosnbears · 20/08/2018 10:53

I do think of the biblical story, it is becoming increasingly popular I'd say Imogen...

Sophronia · 20/08/2018 11:29

Delilah Maeve

wildewillow · 20/08/2018 11:48

Delilah! Every time.

It's my favorite name, shame I used it on my dog as I can't use it for a daughter now

MorrisDancingViv · 20/08/2018 11:56

Delilah Margot sounds rather retro, I like it. However, I'm an anomaly on mn who doesn't like Imogen.

If you are thinking of using Lilah as a diminutive why not just use Lilah? (or Lyla, Lila) - it's an established name in it's own right.

SaoirseTheSeahorse · 20/08/2018 14:41

Both nice, but I prefer Imogen.

Meebs · 21/08/2018 12:43

I'd also go for Delilah Margot. Imogen is nice but popular. Also, did you consider Dahlia?

Treaclepie19 · 21/08/2018 15:03

I like both but would choose Delilah I think.

MrsMolehillMountain · 21/08/2018 16:13

Delilah

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 21/08/2018 16:34

Imogen. Delilah is a bit of a fad type name.

halcyondays · 21/08/2018 16:37

Imogen
