Jasper

I was wondering if I could get your honest opinions of the name Jasper. We are considering it as the boy option for our second child. Our first is a little boy who has quite a strong biblical name.

My husband is very keen on it. I keep swinging between really liking it and being unsure. I am not sure it is a name that would suit a child as he grows up. Do people think it is a young name?

I don't mind you being honest

Peachbubble · 18/08/2018 19:47

I love it too

AnyaMoondial · 18/08/2018 19:48

Personally i’d feel self-conscious shouting it out across a playground but I think it is becoming quite popular so will probably be perfectly normal among his peers.

pipilangstrumpf · 18/08/2018 19:54

Why feel self conscious ? Jasper is a great name!

MysteriousQuinn · 18/08/2018 19:55

Love it!

nobodyreallyknowsme · 18/08/2018 19:58

Dislike it

MissBax · 18/08/2018 19:59

I like it but it's increasingly popular where I live so he'd likely be one of 4/5 in his year, if this matters to you.

Cbeebiesrehab · 18/08/2018 20:00

Like it. Would have been DD name had she been a boy. Didn’t consider it for DS though as I didn’t feel it ‘matched’ DD name. Think it’s quite a modern sounding name.

Cbeebiesrehab · 18/08/2018 20:01

I doubt he would be one of 4/5 in a year! I’m a teacher and you don’t even get that many Olivers in a year and that’s ranked number one!!

Chelseajunior · 18/08/2018 20:02

I love the name jasper Smile

Snoopychildminder · 18/08/2018 20:03

I’ve always loved Jasper and Sebastian my two favourite boys names

TatianaLarina · 18/08/2018 20:10

Love it. Know a really cool Jasper who’s a cult writer.

DN4GeekinDerby · 18/08/2018 20:15

I like it. I think Jasper and Jesper (Danish & Swedish variant, I've been told) are lovely names. I do know a couple adults with those names and I associate it more with adults than I do kids.

bridgetreilly · 18/08/2018 20:18

I love it. I don't think it's particularly childish.

JasperJasper · 18/08/2018 20:18

We have a Jasper! Still love the name and he's 3.5yo now. Only met two others (and they're not people we've seen more than once) but we're in Scotland where it's less popular. I will warn you it gets a mixed reaction from people (& can get confused with Casper) but if you love it, go for it!

NeverKeepANameTooLong · 18/08/2018 20:23

I have one of these, age 18, it's a beautiful name it ouses urban cool so different from the dull endless callums jacks olivers leos etc We have only ever come across one other Jasper since he was born

Redsharks · 18/08/2018 20:27

It remains one of my favourite names- so gorgeous!

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 18/08/2018 20:29

Love it.

Plantpotpot · 18/08/2018 20:32

I think it’s a dog’s name - sorry Sad

GimbleInTheWabe · 18/08/2018 20:32

Yes I also love Jasper and had it on DS' short list.
I keep a Jasper who was a really carefree, cool guy.

butlerswharf · 18/08/2018 20:35

If you've given your first a strong name I wouldn't choose jasper for your second. It's a really weak sounding name in my opinion.

Jasperoonicle · 18/08/2018 20:42

@Plantpotpot yep it is my dogs name!

hamburgers · 18/08/2018 21:00

Not a fan, sorry.

LaPufalina · 18/08/2018 21:03

I like it but it means wasp in Bristol!
I know one who's about five, and two dogs.
