I was wondering if I could get your honest opinions of the name Jasper. We are considering it as the boy option for our second child. Our first is a little boy who has quite a strong biblical name.

My husband is very keen on it. I keep swinging between really liking it and being unsure. I am not sure it is a name that would suit a child as he grows up. Do people think it is a young name?

I don't mind you being honest

Love it! And I've never met one.

shaggedthruahedgebackwards · 18/08/2018 21:27

I don't like it

I can only imagine a 'wet' child with the name. No idea why

RedDwarves · 18/08/2018 22:01

Love Jasper. Love Caspar too.

thislittlepiggywenttothemarket · 18/08/2018 22:05

I absolutely love the English pronouciation of Jasper!

BewareOfDragons · 18/08/2018 22:19

My DH was really keen to use it. I vetoed it. Pet's name.

BonnieLass5 · 18/08/2018 22:23

It’s okay. A bit posh try-hard.

Botanica · 18/08/2018 22:42

My all time favourite. Love it.

Botanica · 18/08/2018 23:58

I was reserving it for my future son, but the dog came first so he got the name instead :)

Picknickers · 19/08/2018 00:07

I like it. Sounds very swashbuckling to me!

moredoll · 19/08/2018 00:57

I like but don't love it. The kind of name that might grow on me.

DramaAlpaca · 19/08/2018 01:00

It's OK. Wouldn't use it myself, but don't mind it.

Goostacean · 19/08/2018 01:01

Reminds me of Jasper Carat? Carrot? Whatever, the commedian. At first glance.

But on reflection, think it suits a boy/man of any age. Like it!

anitagreen · 19/08/2018 01:01

I hate it it reminds me straight away of jasper carrot I'm sorry Shock

AtticaRose · 19/08/2018 14:13

Really don't like it, but there's nothing wrong with it as such, just a personal thing.

youarenotkiddingme · 19/08/2018 15:15

I like it.

However I don't think I could call my child it after the scene in Miranda where she's calling the dog called Jasper in a really posh voice. Is either keep doing it or just laugh every time I had to call my child!

I also like Chester though.

schooltripwoes · 19/08/2018 15:16

I know several Jaspers. They're all cats 🐱

FASH84 · 23/08/2018 14:34

I like it, it was in my top three, but DH said it's pretentious, and then suggested Julian as an alternative 🙄

Kenworthington · 23/08/2018 14:36

I have a 15 yo jasper. He’s pretty cool

starkid · 23/08/2018 16:00

Love it :)

LeeMiller · 23/08/2018 17:26

Dislike it personally, it's weak and wet sounding to me, and I don't like Jas or Jasp as (inevitable?) shortenings.

Itscoldoutside01 · 23/08/2018 17:31

I am the age where it reminds me of Jasper Carrot, but it is very popular amongst my son's peers ( year 3) - apparently because of the popularity of Twilight . We went for Caspar instead - and despite my mother insisting everyone will reference the ghost - she is the only one who ever has 🙄

foxtiger · 23/08/2018 17:44

A few years ago I would have said it carried a bit of a stigma of "poshness," but it seems to be getting more popular now so that wouldn't necessarily be everyone's first thought. I quite like it just as a collection of sounds.
