Hi - anyone have any thoughts on this name? It's one my husband and I can agree on (there aren't many) but I searched it on the darkgreener site and it seems to have been most popular in the 90s/00s and dropping off now - is that how it sounds to you? Not that it matters, it's just I have a name that dates me slightly older than I am and it makes me less keen on it. Do you know any Leonies? Also does it have a usual shortening? TIA.

I’ve known one Leonie who was born in the late 90s. She didn’t shorten her name.

I don’t like it personally. It’s just okay. I would put it in the same category as Paige.

But if you love the name, go for it.

tinytoucan · 12/08/2018 20:38

I don’t know any Leonies. I think it’s pretty Smile

NewtScamandersNaughtyNiffler · 12/08/2018 20:41

I know 2 Leonies. 1 is 11 and the other about 9.

I think it's really pretty

LucyMD · 12/08/2018 20:42

I know one lovely Leoni who is in her mid 20s. Very pretty name!

crocsaretoocoolforschool · 12/08/2018 20:43

I know 2 -one is 28 and one 13

The 28 year old got called Leonie macaroni at school and hated it but now is mostly known as Lee

The 13 year old just gets leonie

Peachbubble · 12/08/2018 20:48

I like it. I don't think I know any actually.

MinnieMul7 · 12/08/2018 20:49

I know one... she's late 20s and shortens it to Lennie

hallodarknessmyoldfriend · 12/08/2018 20:49

Love it!

hallodarknessmyoldfriend · 12/08/2018 20:50

Leonie and Fabiana are on my list Smile

Disfordarkchocolate · 12/08/2018 20:51

I've only known one and I think they would be about 40 now. I thinks it's very lovely.

bakingdemon · 12/08/2018 20:51

It's pretty - originally French I think.

missmouse101 · 12/08/2018 20:52

Sweet!

ImAGoofyGoober · 12/08/2018 20:53

I love it

AuntieStella · 12/08/2018 20:54

The Leonie I knew must be in her 50s by now.

Lovely name - main character in 'These Old Shades' by Georgette Heyer

ManicPixieDream · 12/08/2018 20:55

I know several. All secondary school age.

foxtiger · 12/08/2018 20:57

I know one who is 11. Never met another as far as I can remember.

Belindabauer · 12/08/2018 21:00

I only one and she is 20 and gets called Leonie.

AnyaMoondial · 12/08/2018 21:02

I know one in her mid thirties. She is gorgeous and cool and sophisticated. I think her name is ace . She pronounces it lee-uh-nee rather than lee-O-nee.

Leorogers · 12/08/2018 21:07

That’s my name! I’ve never particularly liked it. I’ve always been Leo which I like a lot but I now hear regularly in the playground.

ourkidmolly · 12/08/2018 21:08

Lovely name. Leonies are always clever. It's relatively uncommon but also known if that makes sense. Don't link it with Paige. More like Harriet or Naomi.

LaGattaNera · 12/08/2018 21:09

lovely lovely lovely!

I have no children but was thinking yesterday that if I had had a girl I would have called her Leonie. Think Tony Hadley's first wife was Leonie.

DramaAlpaca · 12/08/2018 21:11

I've only ever known two, both will be in their forties or fifties now.

I think it's a beautiful name, very pretty.

I agree with a pp that it's more like Harriet & Naomi, not at all like Paige.

Figgygal · 12/08/2018 21:12

I know one
Mid 30's she never shortens it

PassportBridgetPants · 12/08/2018 21:17

Thanks - is there anyone else who thinks it's a Paige sort of name?

AdaColeman · 12/08/2018 21:24

It's a lovely name.

I would say it was not a Paige sort of name.
