Margot?

How do you feel about the name Margot? DH has mentioned potential teasing with maggot but I don’t know... feel like any name has the potential to be made fun of. Would the spelling Margaux eliminate this?

Margot is lovely.

Any name is similar to some silly word.

ReginaPhalange89 · 09/08/2018 13:18

I'm not keen, too old for my taste, but I definitely dont think of Maggot when I see the name written down !

daisypond · 09/08/2018 13:21

I like it a lot. Margot is fine - no need to spell it Margaux.

PassportBridgetPants · 09/08/2018 13:55

I like it a lot and wouldn't think maggot. It is getting very popular though, if that bothers you.

itssquidstella · 09/08/2018 13:56

I LOVE IT. One of my favourite girls' names.

Sandytoeswaveyhair · 09/08/2018 14:19

One of the most beautiful girls names, so so elegant

LucyFox · 09/08/2018 14:23

I’d go for Margaret with a nn Margot
Margaux is just ... wrong

TurquoiseWeekend · 09/08/2018 14:25

Absolutely love it.

TimesNewRoman · 09/08/2018 14:25

Margo is also a widely used (and nicer IMO) spelling

Lucylookingforhelp · 09/08/2018 14:26

@LucyFox yes think we are staying with Margot but oddly enough I can’t stand Margaret despite me loving Margot

DramaAlpaca · 09/08/2018 14:27

I really dislike Margot. To me it looks hard written down and sounds harsh too.

Margaux is a) a wine, and b) pretentious.

Lucylookingforhelp · 09/08/2018 14:27

@TimesNewRoman that’s fair enough but I’m not sure it just seems incomplete to me

We’re thinking of Elizabeth or Evangeline as a middle name. Anyone have any other ideas?

pixieloux · 09/08/2018 14:33

Margot is on our list - love it! Penelope is my favourite middle name for it (also on our list) All our LO's have Irish middle names (DH is Irish) and struggling with them... Cliona is the only one we've come up with (Clee-Uh-Na)

daisypond · 09/08/2018 14:34

Elizabeth is great as a middle name. I don't like Evangeline at all. Catherine?

margesmum · 09/08/2018 14:37

I'm biased. I've got one. She's one of three the same age in our little village, which certainly wasn't what we expected.

I think people either love it or hate it. My Grandad is 90 and he actually laughed when we told him. He thinks it's extremely pretentious.

I'm not keen on Margaux. It's a grape and although Margaux Hemingway used it, it wasn't actually her given name but an in joke.

Our Margot gets called Marge which again, wasn't exactly what we planned. That's so identifying I've name changed specifically to post!
Now that is an old lady name. She's a grumpy child and it suits her perfectly. GrinWink We've not had Maggot yet. Her older brothers name rhymes with Cunt though, so I'm sure we'll cope with Maggot.

Totally outed by this post so I'm changing my name back now!

BriocheBriocheBrioche · 09/08/2018 14:40

I’m biased as I have a 6 year old Margot! We’ve never had anyone associate it with maggot.
I think Margot Elizabeth sounds lovely.

PinkHeart5914 · 09/08/2018 14:44

It’s awful! I wouldn’t want to grow up with it as a name and it reminds me of maggots tbh. Just no!

Elizabeth on the other hand very nice and a classic

Joeybee · 09/08/2018 14:46

Love this name. I think it sounds strong and brave, but still feminine. I can't see kids saying maggot, think your Husband is thinking too much about it!

piefacedClique · 09/08/2018 14:48

Margot and maggots! Wtf! It’s a lovely name. I have a Margot and we always get compliments about her name. I like this spelling not the margaux spelling... it’s a bit wanky!

userabcname · 09/08/2018 14:50

Margot Elizabeth is a lovely name. I am a big fan of the name Elizabeth and it would be a lovely first name too (Elizabeth Margot).

piggie88 · 09/08/2018 15:22

I love Margot, it’s on my list for our baby due in September. Definitely doesn’t make me think of maggot!

sonnyboo · 09/08/2018 16:38

I dislike it, especially pronounced Mar-gott. So harsh and unfeminine.

I do like Margherita!

Quangot · 09/08/2018 16:44

I don't like Margot. It's faddy yet frumpy IMHO.

Lucylookingforhelp · 09/08/2018 16:47

@sonnyboo would be pronounced mar-go for us but understand that we can’t please everyone
