Margot?

How do you feel about the name Margot? DH has mentioned potential teasing with maggot but I don’t know... feel like any name has the potential to be made fun of. Would the spelling Margaux eliminate this?

I like it.

haribosmarties · 09/08/2018 16:49

Margot is gorgeous. So elegant
I like Margot Evangeline

LeeMiller · 09/08/2018 16:50

Margaux makes me think of wine. Margot or Marguerite are nice.

IsTheRainEverComingBack · 09/08/2018 16:50

@sonnyboo why would anyone be pronouncing it Mar-gott? That’s not how the name is said Confused

sonnyboo · 09/08/2018 16:51

Only in French is Margot pronounced as Mar-goh. In Germany, Holland, Scandinavia it is always pronounced Mar-got.

PinkAvocado · 09/08/2018 16:51

I dislike it quite a lot. It is frumpy sounding to me. Elizabeth is lovely.

Mol1628 · 09/08/2018 16:53

I really like Margot. I’d consider it it I were to have a girl.

I had a sylvanian character called Margot and I’ve always liked it!

sonnyboo · 09/08/2018 16:59

why would anyone be pronouncing it Mar-gott?

Because people in Germany, Austria etc pronounce it like that.

Lucylookingforhelp · 09/08/2018 17:02

@sonnyboo I think in England most people have taken the French pronounciation

Not keen, it has a sort of musty smell in my mind.

IDontEatFriedTurtle · 09/08/2018 17:13

Unless the Op is likely to spend lots of time with Germans (while they make maggot jokes in English). I think she's probably safe.

pipilangstrumpf · 09/08/2018 17:20

I'd spell it Margo if that's how you like it pronounced. It will also make it easier for your dd when she learns to spell her name (unless she's in France).

firsttime17 · 09/08/2018 17:29

I'm not overly keen on this name and it's became very popular the past year, i think in 5 years time there will be at least a few margots in every class at school🙈 x

RiddleyW · 09/08/2018 17:31

I think it’s lovely - a friend just had a Margot.

sakura06 · 09/08/2018 18:06

Love it!

Hangingaroundtheportal · 09/08/2018 18:08

I think Margot Robbie has brought the name into the mainstream a but more, its cool, I like it Smile

DULLDull · 09/08/2018 18:11

I like it

DULLDull · 09/08/2018 18:12

Margot Helena (pronounced hell-ain-ar) sounds nice

BoyInTheOven · 09/08/2018 18:27

We have a 2 year old Margot Elizabeth, we don't know any other Margot's, haven't had any maggot references and have had only overwhelmingly positive responses to her name (we were expecting it to be a little marmite but haven't faced that at all.)

We leave be her name (obviously bias) but she suits it to a tea. I originally had the idea from The Durrells where Margot is a bit silly, a little sassy and has loads of confidence 😊

BoyInTheOven · 09/08/2018 18:33

*we love her name (that should have said!)

RiddleyW · 09/08/2018 18:36

Boy I know a small baby with that exact name!

Annabelle4 · 09/08/2018 18:37

I absolutely love it.

Beautiful name.

(And not popular, imo)

wolive · 09/08/2018 18:57

I love it - it is definitely popular in our area if that bothers you. I know three little Margots born in the last year.
