My husband and I both love the name Ava but due to it's popularity and our common last name Smith don't know if we should go for something more unusual?

We both like the name Liberty, which has a few nickname options, what does everyone else think?

Any help much appreciated!!

I prefer Ava to Liberty. Just because Liberty is a brand name

There are other 'Virtue' names that you might consider:

Verity
Mercy

Icklepup · 07/08/2018 16:31

I like Liberty

Other suggestions that are a bit like Ava:

Lara
Lana
Leah
Anya
Carla
Maya
Anna
Alana
Serena

Thank you, didn't know if we could find a long version of Ava. We also like Georgava, Avabelle, other longer versions welcome!

I know of a baby Avalon

NotAgainYoda · 07/08/2018 16:52

I've found Aviana

Abouttoblow · 07/08/2018 16:55

Please don't call your child Georgava or Avabelle.

dinosaurkisses · 07/08/2018 16:57

Georgava sounds like a name George Foreman made up for a daughter.

There’s Ada?

Or you could double barrel your surname and still use Ava so her name doesn’t sound so anonymous.

NotAgainYoda · 07/08/2018 16:58

Alvana
Avery
Maeve ?

FlyingMonkeys · 07/08/2018 17:06

I also like Verity as suggested by pp or Eve, Eden, Anna. I'm not a fan of Libby/Liberty.

RavenWings · 07/08/2018 17:10

Liberty is gorgeous. Don't call her Georgava or Avabelle. Ava isn't great (very boring) but at least it's not...that.

Aozora13 · 07/08/2018 17:12

I work with a Libby and was v suprised to find out it was short for Liberty rather than Elizabeth. I think Bertie would be a cool nn too. My DH likes virtue names, specifically Clemency and Serenity. I like Verity but mainly because I associate it with a really awesome girl I went to school with.

FlyingMonkeys · 07/08/2018 17:15

Avalyn is nice too. I think it gives more scope as an adult name plus you can still use Ava as nn.

AnyaMoondial · 07/08/2018 17:16

I like Liberty. Ava is good too though, I wouldn’t be put off by popularity if that is what you love most.

ReginaPhalange89 · 07/08/2018 17:32

Not keen on liberty. Ava is a lovely name , yes very common, but if you both love it I wouldn't let that stop you using it

Avery is similar but a bit different.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 07/08/2018 17:35

Avalon, Ava for short, is nice, though I do quite like Liberty (Libby).

Petalflowers · 07/08/2018 17:36

Avaline as the longer form?

BroomstickOfLove · 07/08/2018 17:39

Avaline and Aveline are both real names, if you want something longer.

MyLifeInTheSunshine · 07/08/2018 17:56

I know a grown up Ave who is Aviana. She is Greek, so not sure if that’s the origin of the name?

AtticaRose · 07/08/2018 17:59

Liberty NN Libby is a very cool name.

I think if your name is Smith you can afford to go a little weirder on the first name! (Wish I could!)

FawnDrench · 07/08/2018 18:27

I know an Avonel, shortened to Ava.

SequinsOnEverything · 07/08/2018 19:07

I really like Liberty Smith! I do like Ava too, but Ava Smith is just a run of the mill everyday name.

daisypond · 07/08/2018 19:13

With a surname like Smith you can afford to go more unusual. I like Liberty. I don't like Ava at all - it's very bland.

FlatPackFurnitureCompAnyone · 07/08/2018 19:15

I met an adult Arden once and thought it was a really nice name.

MadMaryBoddington · 07/08/2018 22:48

I like Liberty. Ava is dullsville, especially with Smith.
