I know it could sound ridiculous, but it occured to me a couple of weeks ago and for some reason it's really grown on me? I just love how natural and sensitive it sounds. Grin

No. Just no.

In 12 years from now some poor teacher will be trying to keep a straight face whilst telling the other little darlings off for calling your child herbal, spicy and who knows what other stupid culinary names.

Unless you want him coming home crying (or suspended for fighting) for being called “curry powder” or “bouquet Garni”.

No no no.

TwitterQueen1 · 05/08/2018 19:58

Hmmm Ok Tire how about 'Soupdragon'?

roundaboutthetown · 05/08/2018 19:59

This reminds me of a game I used to play in primary school - inventing silly names for imaginary people.

Of course, parsley in French is Persil. How about calling a son Persil and a daughter Fairy? Or if another boy, then he could be Daz and the next girl Arial. I think themes are the way to go...

PortiaCastis · 05/08/2018 20:01

Will his other names be sauce and gammon

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 05/08/2018 20:04

I think it's a great name, reminds me of a very friendly Lion from the 70's....

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 05/08/2018 20:09

Far better to go for Sir Basil - the King of the Herbs. Rumour has it he likes huntin’ and shootin’ and fishin’.

Ahhh happy memories.

llangennith · 05/08/2018 20:09

No no no😂😂😂

RaindropsOnKittens43 · 05/08/2018 20:10

My sisters friend has a Zebedee. It seems quite normal now!
Yes, the fact that it is an actual name, even if a bit obscure, probably helps. Parsley doesn't have that advantage Grin!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 05/08/2018 20:10

A friend’s dh did suggest Hal (short for Halibut) for one of their boys. He’d be good friends with Parsley.

Snowinsummer · 05/08/2018 20:13

How about Percy or Percival? Very similar & is at least a proper name. Parsley is just awful, sorry.

RiceandBeans · 05/08/2018 20:15

Ha ha ha ha ha! You are a funny one, OP

One of my ponies’ stable name was Parsley when I was 12. He was a real goer to hounds actually.

It’s not a name for a human unless you want your child to grow up super-tough (boy named Sue).

SurvivedTheirTeens · 05/08/2018 20:16

Herbie would be better

Annajohnsdottir · 05/08/2018 20:20

It also reminds of "I'm a very friendly Lion called Parsley" from the Herb Garden.

Also can you imagine the hard time he'd have being taken seriously as an adult, at job interviews and the like? He wouldn't get a look in Confused

MrsSnootyPants2018 · 05/08/2018 20:22

No. Just no.

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 05/08/2018 20:25

I knew someone called Sage.
But that has the benefit of meaning wise.

Wauden · 05/08/2018 20:29

Only if his second name is 'Sauce'. Smile

flumpybear · 05/08/2018 20:29

There was a cinnamon at my school

Parsley though - no!

And thyme, not if your surname is Lord Hmm

Maybugger · 05/08/2018 20:36

🙄 ...natural and sensitive...
Right.
It's a child you're naming not a ruddy health product OP!
I presume your name isn't Rosemary?

ozymandiusking · 05/08/2018 20:56

For heavens sake, don't be ridiculous.

GarlickGirl · 05/08/2018 21:02

Named changed for this as a bit outing but my user name here is my surname.

So Parsley as a first name, could constitute a recipe.....

In all seriousness, don’t do it. My son was bullied mercilessly in year 7 for his name.

CircleofWillis · 05/08/2018 21:04

And thyme, not if your surname is Lord
Actually I think if your surname is Lord it would be a crime NOT to call your child Thyme.

VanillaSugar · 05/08/2018 21:09

Asafoetida is a nice name.

MysteriesOfTheOrganism · 05/08/2018 21:11

Parsley? Oh no - no, no, no. You could always be clever and translate it into another language. Maybe French? And the French for 'Parsley' is, umm, 'Persil'.

Perhaps not. Grin

cowgirlblues · 05/08/2018 21:14

Noooooo

MushroomMushroom · 05/08/2018 21:17

Parsley? As in Parsley The Herb Lion (80s children's TV). No, just no.
