Spent ages thinking of a name we both love and low & behold my work friend has just used it on her new puppy!!

The only saving grace is that she's left work so chances are we will just be Facebook friends from now on as we live quite a distance from each other etc.

But it has put me off using the name now.

So we feel we are back to square one. We like names ending in y and not too popular.

no reason you can't still use it!

The kid will probably love sharing a name witth a dog

dog life expectancy is only about 10 anyway, so not a life long doubler

MikeUniformMike · 05/08/2018 13:11

Get a dog and give it your friend's name.

chipsandgin · 05/08/2018 13:14

I agree - it's just a dog and you're only going to be facebook friends don't let it affect your decision. Also agree with above pp - name your next pet after her (or pretend you have - maybe a nice bald rat or something..)

The dog will probably be dead before your child is out of primary school Wink

Chewbecca · 05/08/2018 13:22

Use it still

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 05/08/2018 13:34

How do you work that out?

DramaAlpaca · 05/08/2018 13:54

Use it!

SpaceRangerSpace · 05/08/2018 13:55

My chosen name for DC #2 (due later this year) also happens to be the name of my parents' best friend's dog. My parents will absolutely hate it! But they hated DC1's name too so I kinda find it hilarious that they'll see it as a dog's name and be horrified yet again Grin

Buffythevampireslayerr · 05/08/2018 13:57

My friend gave her cat the same name as my ds.

I didn't care.

AgathaTabithaBagatha · 05/08/2018 13:58

Dogs don’t live that long OP, go for it.

My parents gave their puppy my name. I don’t mean the name I was planning on giving a child, I mean my actual name. Confused

Hoppinggreen · 05/08/2018 13:59

I named DS after my childhood dog so it really wouldn’t bother me

SlowlyShrinking · 05/08/2018 14:01

I’d still use it 🤷‍♀️

AlonsoTigerHeart · 05/08/2018 14:03

Is it lassie?
Id still use it

ThePricklySheep · 05/08/2018 14:04

How do you work that out?

Because googling says dog life span is 10-13?

Lynne1Cat · 05/08/2018 14:06

It's no big deal. Either use the same name, or choose another. There are LOTS of names ending in Y...

Tilly, Rosie, Keely, Kelly, Lacey, Kylie, Molly, Polly, Maisie, Gracie, Lainey,
Carly, Charley, Lexi,
Tommy, Robbie, Charlie, Marty, Artie, Bartie,

BagelGoesWalking · 05/08/2018 14:06

"My parents gave their puppy my name. I don’t mean the name I was planning on giving a child, I mean my actual name."

WTF, Agatha! I'm a bit stunned by that. Did they say why?

NonaGrey · 05/08/2018 14:07

She’s just some woman you’ll occasionally hear about via FB.

Why on earth wouldn’t you still use it?

CaliforniaLoove · 05/08/2018 14:08

This made me laugh. My brother named his dog after me. Think it will be fine!

CaliforniaLoove · 05/08/2018 14:09

Also I say named after me, it wasn't even that complimentary, he just called the dog it without thinking about me apparently.

I have a fairy unusual name. Smile

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 05/08/2018 14:09

I was thinking primary school meant age 6 but yes I get it now.

Stillmonday · 05/08/2018 14:14

All these comments are swaying me back to using the name.
I think i doubted it as our mutual friends / colleagues might say that I named my son after her dog - but like you say - I shouldn't care less!

ReginaPhalange89 · 05/08/2018 14:18

I really wouldn't let it put you off. Is she even that close of a friend that youll see her regularly ? Or is it more like in a few years she'll be 'someone you used to work with' .
I wouldn't let it put me off. A girl I worked with had a dog called Phoebe ! My girls name . But I don't work there anymore and don't keep in touch with her , didn't even think twice about it lol

ZebraKid71 · 05/08/2018 16:01

Most dogs I know these days have human names rather than traditional dog names anyway. On my street alone there are dogs named Bella, Graham, Poppy, Eliza, Sebastian and Lara. Don't let it bother you and go with the name.

bridgetreilly · 05/08/2018 16:04

Literally no one will think you named your child after a random ex-work colleague's dog. No one.

LoveInTokyo · 05/08/2018 16:17

What is the name?

Is it a proper human name?
