Is our name choice 'common in every sense'?

We have a few weeks left to name our 4th son. We are struggling!

We liked (in this order)
Zachary
Marcus
Sebastian

My sister said that where she lives, Zach/Zac/Zack is 'common in every sense'. Is this true? Having a stereotypically working class name myself, I never wanted the same for our DCs, and also don't want to immediately raise assumptions when new parents hear about Zack and his mum [similar to] Jade!

Is Zachary the new Kai? Which is your favourite? Or open to other suggestions.

I really like Marcus and Sebastian.

Zachary and Zachariah are names with conservative religious connotations imo. Not my cup of tea, tbh.

I taught a Zac about 14 years ago (so he’s be 20 now), and he was one of the nicest, coolest kids I’ve ever taught. He’s the only one I’ve taught in 3 different counties. I also know of a Zachary who’s just turned 2 and is unbelievably cute - middle class family.

I don’t think it’s ‘common’ or sounds indicative of a certain class - it’s biblical, so as a previous poster said, surely it’s traditional really.

What are your other sons’ names?

Marcus
Zachary
Sebastian in that order.
Benjamin
Rupert
Marshall
Matthew
Julian
Timothy
Christopher
Brinton
Max
Stanley
William
Samuel
Daniel

The one Zachary I know is posh. I know 3 Sebastian's. Marcus is a lovely name!

MikeUniformMike · 05/08/2018 20:26

Of the 3 I'd choose Marcus.
Marcus Aurelius Fourthtime sounds good

Thank you all! Smile

Well my DP went to an elite private school and one of his best friends was Zachary (Zac). I also dated a Zachariah years ago and he was very middle class. I would never associate it with any particular class in all honesty, it’s just one of those classic names that never goes out of fashion.

Mousefunky · 06/08/2018 12:49

P.s Sebastian is my favourite of the three. I wanted it for my DS but DP vetoed it because of a twat he went to school with.

Choccyhobnob · 06/08/2018 13:25

I love the name Zachary - totally biased as I have one! We're South East and I don't know any others.

Bouledeneige · 06/08/2018 13:28

I don't think of Zack as common - but we know a huge number of them.

I don't really like Marcus and although I like Sebastian I don't like it being shortened to Basty (one I know of), though Seb is fine.

BubblesBuddy · 06/08/2018 13:32

All the names are fine. Definitely not common in every sense!

BubblesBuddy · 06/08/2018 13:32

Brinton - is that not a make of carpet?

SoftBlocks · 06/08/2018 13:35

They’re all nice, go with whichever you like.

RideOn · 06/08/2018 14:13

All fine none "common in every sense" Zachary more popular, but not overly here. I like Marcus.

AnElderlyLadyOfMediumHeight · 06/08/2018 14:16

I don't think of Zachary as having class connotations. Like it better than Marcus. (Not keen on the Zack spelling of the shortening, tbh).

What is absolutely not classy, though, is referring to someone or something as 'common' (in the pejorative sense).

StrumpersPlunkett · 06/08/2018 14:18

Ignore your sister
Choose the name you like
I work in a primary school
At least 6 Zachs of various spellings
One Marcus
3 Sebastians one whose chosen name is Seb

Gooseygoosey12345 · 06/08/2018 21:00

I know one Zac. His parents are well to do, not "common in every sense" at all. I've not heard another one so it can't be that bad!!

GinUnicorn · 06/08/2018 21:07

I love all three of your names.

I don’t know any other Zachs here. Good luck with choosing :)

Sessy19 · 06/08/2018 21:28

I really like the name Zac, but it is waaaay too popular in my region for me to use. I can count 13 that I know personally!! 😳

Katy1610 · 07/08/2018 00:12

All three are lovely names, If you like it use it. Don’t worry about other people’s opinions 😊

MyDcAreMarvel · 07/08/2018 00:16

No Zach is popular but not common, thought you were going to say Mason.

PrincessoftheSea · 07/08/2018 00:30

I love both Marcus and Sebastian

DiegoMadonna · 07/08/2018 01:53

I don't think it's common in any sense.

Only ever met two, both over 25, and both very middle class.

Oh and Zack Morris from Saved By The Bell of course!

delphguelph · 07/08/2018 02:00

They're all nice.
Not exactly Jason, Kevin etc.
