Saw on the news, a........ Shuntel.

toffee1000 · 05/08/2018 05:16

Shuntel... that took me a while.

SecretWitch · 05/08/2018 05:48

NCPuffin My son attended school with two sweet girls, one named Summer Curtain and one named Fairybelle Joy. We have lost touch with Summer but Fairybelle is now a practising midwife.

Sessy19 · 05/08/2018 11:19

Regardless if it’s spelling, I can’t stand the name Liam/Leeham/Leighum/Lea-M. It’s such a harsh, ugly sound....I associate it with criminals and dirtiness!! 😳

madja · 05/08/2018 11:49

Summer Curtain
What the actual fuck??? Shock

Cauliflowersqueeze · 05/08/2018 11:54

Arry

I’ve taught two.

ladydickisathingapparently · 05/08/2018 11:56

I love the name Liam, but totally put off by Marie-urrrrr on Coronation Street when she had Beybeh Leee-urrrrrm.

YerAuntFanny · 05/08/2018 13:00

I have a Liam, he is neither dirty (well no more so than your average teen boy) or a criminal Hmm

I know a couple of Aulays, and have never considered it an odd name. I'm in the north east of Scotland.

YeTalkShiteHen · 05/08/2018 14:10

Dirty or criminal? Fuck me your judgy pants must be giving you a wedgie!

Puremince · 05/08/2018 14:20

According to Scotland's people, there have been 211 Aulays since 1855. There were only three Ollies born in Scotland before 1955, two of which were female. So in Scotland Aulay was an unusual but established name, whilst Ollie (rather than Oliver) is more recent.

ladydickisathingapparently · 05/08/2018 16:00

YerAuntFanny according to an acquaintance of ours we gave ds2 a name “only used for naughty boys...”

DH said “well we named after my dead granddad but thanks for your concern....”

Hmm
Sessy19 · 05/08/2018 19:45

It’s an opinion, don’t be defensive! 😂😂😂😂

YeTalkShiteHen · 05/08/2018 19:52

Not defensive at all, I don’t actually know anyone called Liam.

It was snide as fuck though.

YerAuntFanny · 05/08/2018 22:19

@Sessy19, saying that it sounds harsh or ugly is an opinion.

Saying it's associated with "criminals and dirtiness" is stereotyping and is indeed snide as fuck!

Don't kids often change their own names though? In my days at school kids often substituted their middle name.

rainbowsanduniicorns · 05/08/2018 23:26

I know of a Leighyah, which is pronounced as "Leah". One of my facebook friends granddaughter.

Her and Leighyam would be good siblings 😂

rainbowsanduniicorns · 05/08/2018 23:26

GameofPhones · 05/08/2018 23:34

Also in my school days there was a brief fad for double-barrelled first names on the French model like Jean-Pierre. A girl I knew called herself Melly-Kate for a while.

Dhalandchips · 05/08/2018 23:50

I heard someone shouting 'Nivea' at a child the other day. Strange to call a kid after face cream!

frogface69 · 06/08/2018 01:05

I know a Lilley.
And a Padditta. They conceived the day they saw 101 Dalmatians. I understand they meant Perdita.
Oh, and a Toadie, an Oak and a Koaden.
Two sisters Destinee and Ebonee.

Deadringer · 06/08/2018 01:50

I think Cala-Mari sounds pretty. Wink

PippilottaLongstocking · 06/08/2018 02:02

dhal probably nevaeh

Not the prettiest name

Flyingpompom · 06/08/2018 02:38

There's a thing for rhyming names round here.
I kid you not, my DD's year group has 2 sets of twins- Hanna and Janna; and Leah and Diya. (Outs self to anyone from the same school!)
A few years ago, I taught sisters, around 5 years apart- Chloe and Zoe.
I don't get what people are thinking when they do this.

In terms of apostrophes, I've taught a L'Wren. I've also taught a Cheval.
I've taught a group of siblings all named after cars- I won't name them because that really, really would be too outing.

mathanxiety · 06/08/2018 02:59

Eilidh is not 'Celtic' for Ayley.

It's a Scots Gaelic name.
