Lordamighty · 02/08/2018 19:42

I feel sorry for the teachers.

YeTalkShiteHen · 02/08/2018 19:43

It is a name, originally a surname but used as a forename.

Never heard of Aulay on its own though.

Singlenotsingle · 02/08/2018 19:45

Some people just cant spell. It'll cause a lifetime of people trying to tell the kid how to spell his name.

MikeUniformMike · 02/08/2018 19:47

When did Kenzie start to be a first name?

YeTalkShiteHen · 02/08/2018 19:48

The first Kenzie I remember hearing about was the kid from Blazin Squad.

BikeRunSki · 02/08/2018 19:50

I known an Aimmiee.
Yes. All 7 letters, many of them superfluous. Admittedly, I speak as the mother of an Amy.

BikeRunSki · 02/08/2018 19:51

I know a Kenzie who is about 40. I’ve always assumed it’s her real name.

YeTalkShiteHen · 02/08/2018 19:52

I known an Aimmiee

I do too, does your Aimmiee have sisters with unusual spellings too?

hamsterwheel · 02/08/2018 19:53

I know if a Charles, quite normal you might say except they say it Char Les.....

Onlyforthedogposts · 02/08/2018 19:54

I came across a Kiyyunn on Facebook the other day....presumably pronounced like Kian?

AJPTaylor · 02/08/2018 19:57

I am just awaiting the arrival of the apostrophe as in American first names. That will be fun.

If you mean D’ names then there’s actually a really interesting and very sad story about how they came about.

Emily7708 · 02/08/2018 19:59

One of the mums at my son’s school has recently had a baby girl and called her Holleigh-Mae. A sister for Alphie-Jack. Horrendous.

BlancheM · 02/08/2018 20:00

I worked with an 'Ayley. She said her parents liked Hayley but 'knew no one would bother pronouncing the H'

MikeUniformMike · 02/08/2018 20:01

Thanks.

Funnybunnydog · 02/08/2018 20:03

YeTalkShiteHen can you point me in the direction of that story.

upsideup · 02/08/2018 20:04

Theres a girl is DS's class called Reignbeau. I think Rainbow which I actually really like is a unique enough name on its own without a unique spelling too.

Andylion · 02/08/2018 20:05

I used to teach a Yhiane. His parents liked the name ieuan but had no idea how to spell it

I have never heard of this name. How do you pronounce it?

faloma · 02/08/2018 20:06

@BlancheM I know an eilidh which is Celtic for ayley!

My mum always goes on about these kind of names as back in the day if it wasn't in the registrars book you couldn't have it. I do think the unusual and utter ridiculous spellings of a name should be banned.

I purposely gave my children phonetic names which when shortened couldn't be mis spelt!

I feel sorry for the kids.

Already seen a Kam'ran on these shores I'm afraid.

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 02/08/2018 20:10

I'm not doubting you, OP, but I'd be surprised if Leighyum doesn't turn out to be another urban name-myth, in the style of L-a or whatever it is.

Peach6789 · 02/08/2018 20:11

*I used to teach a Yhiane. His parents liked the name ieuan but had no idea how to spell it

I'm lost on this one too, can't imagine the youtube pronunciation when I googled Ieuan is right.

piefacedClique · 02/08/2018 20:13

Andylion it’s YIGH-un

YIGH - rhymes with sigh

YIGH-un rhymes with Ryan

BikeRunSki · 02/08/2018 20:13

YeTalkShiteHen
No, “my” Aimmiee has a brother and a sister with very mainstream names with very traditional spellings. Her mum would be devastated to know she’s not oooonik.

Iputthescrewinthetuna · 02/08/2018 20:14

My DD is called Khloë. But at least it is recognisable! I read that as LAY YUM. X
