Would you pronounce the ‘s’ in Josiah as an ‘s’ (‘jo-SI-ah’) or a ‘z’ (‘jo-ZI-ah’) sound?

Definitely an S sound

Whynotnowbaby · 27/07/2018 14:05

A ‘z’ for me

EyeDrops · 27/07/2018 14:07

Somewhere between the two. Sorry that's not helpful!!

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 27/07/2018 14:08

Z

This reminds me of my family, Who always laugh at me for the way I pronounce Joseph with an S sound not a Z sound. They think I’m wrong but I can’t say it any other way..Confused

Disfordarkchocolate · 27/07/2018 14:14

S for me as often shortened to Si.

GahWhatever · 27/07/2018 14:14

s

ThanksItHasPockets · 27/07/2018 14:15

Yes, I would pronounce Joseph with a ‘z’ sound but I’m not so sure for Josiah.

Ozgirl01 · 27/07/2018 14:29

S

CherryBlossom23 · 27/07/2018 14:32

Somewhere between the two but more of an s sound. I think it depends on your accent. In America it would be pronounced with a very obvious S but I think it's slightly softer on this side of the pond.

LoveB · 27/07/2018 14:33

Z. But Joseph with an S!

TroubledLichen · 27/07/2018 14:35

Z for me because The West Wing is the only time I’ve heard it said out loud and that’s how they say it.

TroubledLichen · 27/07/2018 14:37

Sorry that should be with an S not a Z. Regardless the difference between the two is quite subtle!

Ginandplatonic · 27/07/2018 14:37

S (and for Joseph too!)

foxtiger · 27/07/2018 16:36

I say Joseph with a Z and Josiah with an S, although I've never actually met anyone called Josiah!

strawberrypenguin · 27/07/2018 16:37

Somewhere between the 2 but closer to S I think! Sorry not very helpful!

Agustarella · 27/07/2018 16:38

Z

Icklepup · 27/07/2018 16:54

S

SayNoToCarrots · 27/07/2018 16:56

Z

Biologifemini · 27/07/2018 16:56

S for both Josiah and Joseph

Based on my church attendance as a child!

VeraViolet · 27/07/2018 16:57

Definitely 'Z'

It's the same as Isiah, which is pronounced I-Zi-Ah

If it had a double s, then it would be pronounced S e.g. Messiah

Pingipinguin · 27/07/2018 16:59

Z!

Kraggle · 27/07/2018 17:01

I’d go for S as I have a Josephine and I hate it when people pronounce it with a Z sound.
