Can I have honest opinions on June as a given name? My baby is due in November but June is a particularly important month for me and DH (met, married, my birthday, found out DD was a DD). Would it be weird that she's not a summer baby? Is it too old fashioned? I particularly like The Handmaid's Tale reference as it's one of my favourite books. Also, any good middle names or nicknames? I think Juni is cute ☺️

I love It! And it's not too out there to be a difficult name to live with but super cute

Jazzie234 · 24/07/2018 16:37

I don't like it. I think it's very boring and not very nice sounding.

Fine as a middle name, but not as a first name.

MorrisDancingViv · 24/07/2018 16:39

I think it's quite nice although prefer Juno

susurration · 24/07/2018 16:41

I like it. I knew a friend's mum called June and she was lovely.

More recently I think of it as a really strong name after watching The Handmaid's Tale where the main character is called June.

rizlett · 24/07/2018 16:41

I love it too op. Time for a revival.

saywhatnnow · 24/07/2018 16:49

I love it but it a family name so I'm biased 😂

LeeMiller · 24/07/2018 16:57

The Junes I've met are all 60s/70s/80s - it does bring June Whitfield to mind for me, but I think it's probably coming back, maybe due to people looking for an alternative to May, and also because names from that era are becoming popular again.

In terms of The Handmaid's Tale, you'd be naming her after the show not the book. We don't learn Offred's real name in the book and Margaret Atwood has said it was never her intention for her to be called June, people just picked up on a reference and assumed. It sounds like you have plenty of other reasons to choose it though.

Beautiful

daisypond · 24/07/2018 17:49

I like it.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 24/07/2018 18:58

Middle name fine but wouldn't for a first name. It's old fashioned but not in a good way. I like Juno though.

Theweasleytwins · 24/07/2018 19:00

My Nanny is called June- born in June though

MikeUniformMike · 24/07/2018 19:02

It's not suitable for a November baby.

rainbowstardrops · 24/07/2018 19:07

I would if they were born in June but not November!
Maybe a middle name?

RedDwarves · 24/07/2018 22:54

Loads of Junes born in the past who weren't born in June. It was a dead common name.

It's fine. I prefer Juno. Juno is cool, whereas June is everyone's great aunt.

Misericord · 24/07/2018 22:56

Hate Juno - but it reminds me of the film which I thought was awful.

I think June if the child was born in June would actually be weirder! Your reasons make it a lovely name :)

Pingipinguin · 24/07/2018 23:00

I like it!
It would also make a fab middle name if you decided that you'd rather have a different first name. It goes with basically anything

Yika · 24/07/2018 23:36

I definitely think there is no need for a connection between birth month and name. Fine for a November baby.

Cbeebiesrehab · 25/07/2018 10:04

Why does a June baby have to be born in June? No other name has to be so literal-not all boys named Rufus have to have red hair nor all girls called Grace be graceful. Plus June has special meaning for her parents. I like it and find it quite refreshing.

AtticaRose · 25/07/2018 11:44

Love it, and love your reasons for it.

DailyFailAreTwats · 25/07/2018 13:36

I like Juno, but June makes me think of Terry & June, or a middle aged busybody.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 25/07/2018 14:02

I prefer Juno.

sonnyboo · 25/07/2018 14:24

June is beautiful and feminine

Juno sounds masculine and reminds me of a sumo wrestler

RavenWings · 25/07/2018 19:04

I think it's very aged sounding. I'd expect to find a June hanging out with Geraldine and Maureen. It could make a good middle name but definitely no to it as first name.

RedDwarves · 25/07/2018 22:19

Except that Juno was the Roman Queen of the Gods.
