Hermione or Chloe?

We are about to have our third girl and we are running out of names! Our first two all have three names each so we have got through a few. Hermione is top of my list but hubby says too much of an association with Harry Potter, whereas I also like his name of Chloe but we have a one syllable surname so I don't think it's that 'exciting'. Which would you go for? Our other girls have three syllable first names but they don't 'go' together.

I cannot get past the Harry Potter association with hermione and I don't like any of the shortening. Though as a name in itself I think it's lovely. For that reason I'd go with Chloe.

Sophronia · 22/07/2018 10:09

Hermione

userabcname · 22/07/2018 10:12

I love both these names actually. Hermione is beautiful and I love the Harry Potter link! Chloe is lovely too and I don't think boring at all. If I had to pick one, however, then it would be Hermione.

BossWitch · 22/07/2018 10:13

Hermione. 100%!

Rumpleteezer · 22/07/2018 10:30

This is really interesting, I thought everyone would go for Chloe which I also think is a beautiful name. I'm not too bothered with the association as I always loved it from A Winter's Tale so I would just tell people that's why we picked it, I know a Lois who still gets the Lois Lane a lot though and I think that must be pretty annoying!

If your husband doesn't want his daughter to be named Harmoine then surely that's not an option?!

Chloe is okay, a bit dated I feel.

I like Georgia, Alexandra & Katrina for girls.

AfterSchoolWorry · 22/07/2018 10:35

Chloe. Hermoine is awful.

RedDwarves · 22/07/2018 10:36

Chloe.

Hermione is frankly awful. I think you'll get a lot of people on here saying that they like Hermione, but MN isn't really representative of broad perspectives on names!

IsTheRainEverComingBack · 22/07/2018 10:37

Hermione 100%. Lots of names are connected to other things, it’s not a reason not to use them. Unless it’s a murderers name or something.
Chloe is boring and dated, and honestly a bit ‘chavvy’ for want of a better word.

MindBodyChocolate · 22/07/2018 10:37

I love the name Hermione but I would probably not go for it myself because of the HP link.

Chloe is lovely. But there must be some other names you haven’t used yet!! I always think if I had a third I’d go a bit off the wall!!

StrawberryCat · 22/07/2018 10:38

Both are lovely names. I'm leaning towards Chloe, maybe as the 'safer' name (but that doesnt mean boring).

What are your first two daughters called?

MikeUniformMike · 22/07/2018 10:54

I don't like either of them. Chloes are everywhere and get called Chlo. Zoe is much prettier.
Hermione is too HP.

AtticaRose · 22/07/2018 11:01

I love Chloe. Wish I could use it!

Hermione is nice, but very HP.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 22/07/2018 11:14

Chloe.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 22/07/2018 11:24

Chloe. It is a bit dated but it's still a pretty name.

FourFriedChickensDryWhiteToast · 22/07/2018 11:30

Chloe = dated and a bit overused about 20 years ago

Hermione = Harry Potter

Rumpleteezer · 22/07/2018 11:30

Other names we have used are Annabelle, Sophie, Jessica, Elizabeth, Amelie and Holly. Considering a Sophia but it's obviously close to Sophie.

I really don't like the name Chloe, it's a bit weak to me and not very pretty, especially compared to the other lovely names you've used so far. Hermione is a lovely name. How about Isabelle, Charlotte, Mary, Katherine, Mabel, Florence...?

Elmo303 · 22/07/2018 12:23

Interesting as we loved Hermione but went with Cleo in the end. Love it’s unusual but not unheard of, strong, vintage style. Maybe a possibility for you? Agree with others that Chloe is a bit dated.

ooobisto · 22/07/2018 12:24

Hermione is a beautiful name, and frankly so what if there's a link to HP!

Chloe is very popular, not especially keen. Not sure why a previous poster said it's dated though, there are baby Chloes everywhere at the moment.

OutsideNumber79 · 22/07/2018 12:32

Hermione is lovely and timeless, whereas Chloe is quite boring, very dated (80s/90s) and less classy. I'd put Chloe on a level with Shannon, Nicole, Ashley.

Susannach · 22/07/2018 12:33

Hermione! No contest. Chloe is pretty but rather boring by comparison.

Susannach · 22/07/2018 12:34

How about Cecily or Romilly?

Passmethecrisps · 22/07/2018 12:35

I would have liked Hermione for dd2 but could not be arsed with the endless HP comments it would create. It’s a lovely name.

ILoveMyMonkey · 22/07/2018 12:36

I like Hermione but agree if your husband isn't keen you need to find something you both love.

But I wouldn't pick Chloe. Every other child is a Chloe, I taught 2 last year and have 3 this year and that's just the last 2 years, I don't think I've ever taught a class in the last 10 years that hasn't had at least 1 Chloe in it!
