Conpletly stuck on names!

SamanthaH92 · 10/07/2018 08:51

So i am due to have second DD2 by c section next week (if not before depending on appointment tomorrow!) We are so stuck for names. We wrote a list but then we decided we didn't like any of them because people will shorten them. Any suggestions? I want something that isn't that common but not unheard of and cute.

On our list was...
Willa
Aubree
Violet
Addy/adaline
Paisley
Harper
Darcie

Harper is 44th most popular name in England and Wales. Darcie and Violet are both within the Top 100 so it's likely you'd come across another at some point.

Violet is my favourite out of your list.

HJL2506 · 10/07/2018 09:28

Violet is my favourite name, I'm expecting DS2 but if either boys were a girl they would have been called Violet! Good Luck!

SamanthaH92 · 10/07/2018 09:35

I just don't want people shortening the violet name to vi or V which i know will happen x

Some people will shorten any name but if you use the long version most will follow your lead.

I love Willa and Violet from your list. The others are mostly Teen Mom USA kids names and that's enough to put me off using them myself, sorry! But if you don't watch then you wouldn't have their faces pop up Grin

SamanthaH92 · 10/07/2018 09:54

Haha i never thought of that! Yes i do watch teen moms, i never got the names of there though. I've spent nights conatantly google searching lol x

Violet is my favourite.

I actually like Paisley, but I wouldn't use it. I think it'd be widely disliked in the UK.

Harper is ridiculously popular where I live. It has been in the top 10 for a few years.

Cosmoa · 10/07/2018 10:12

Willa, Aubree and Harper are my favourites on your list! Especially Aubree Smile

MariaMadita · 10/07/2018 10:12

Willa: lovely :)
Aubree: Aubrey is nice. Aubree looks wrong imo.
Violet: also nice.
Addy/adaline: I prefer Adeline nn Addy but Adaline is also fine.
Paisley: not my cup of tea but ok.
Harper: very popular and imo harsh.
Darcie: genuinely horrible imo.

One to two syllable names are probably the least likely to be shortened. (But they might be "lengthened"... Grace - Gracie etc...)

Suggestions:
Willow, Wren, Audrey, Penny, Scarlett, Briar, Grace, Mila.

HJL2506 · 10/07/2018 10:17

My boy so called Stanley and I don't want him called Stan and we will correct people if they do. So far nobody has. I can't help what happens when he's a teenager but I'll still correct them 😂

TheHalfBloodPrincess · 10/07/2018 10:28

I love violet the most from your list.

Lettie as a nn?

Cbeebiesrehab · 10/07/2018 10:47

Darcy/Darcie and Harper are probably far more popular than you would think and may end up being Darcie/Harper Surname at school.
To me Aubrey is a boys name and Aubree doesn’t look right at all to my eye.
Willa is pretty and I like Violet although I’m with you with the shortening thing as they may end up Will and Vi.
Don’t like Addy and feels a bit Teen Mom 2 as previous poster said (same as Aubree really) and isn’t Paisley Aubree’s sister too🤔 anyway, despite this I think Paisley is quite nice and definitely more unusual than some of the others.

SamanthaH92 · 10/07/2018 13:19

Oh is that aubrees sisters name? I didn't realise. I just saw it on nameberry i think lol. My family are dead against Willa 😔

On our list was...
Willa - awful
Aubree - awful
Violet - ok
Addy/adaline - awful
Paisley - different
Harper - no
Darcie - don't like it at all

TatianaLarina · 10/07/2018 13:49

Violet by a million miles, the rest are ghastly.

(Aubree?!)

SleepWarrior · 10/07/2018 14:15

I like Violet and Adaline the most.

ChickensError · 10/07/2018 14:20

How about Audrey? Surely Aubrey is a boys name?

I think Violet is the best. What about Philippa (Pippa), Ava, Stella, Cora, Emmeline, Beatrice (Bea), Eleanor, Ivy?

SamanthaH92 · 10/07/2018 15:03

I have heard aubree was orgionally a french boys name lol. I don't want anything starting with E as thats the first letter in DD1s name x

OP posts:
SamanthaH92 · 10/07/2018 15:04

I did like ivy but i know a lot of ivys round here x

OP posts:
Dragonniamh · 10/07/2018 15:07

It's not French. Aubree is a misspelling of the surname Aubrey, which was used as a boys' name but some people are now starting to use for girls.

haribosmarties · 10/07/2018 15:08

Violet is a beautiful name. I also like Adaline

Dragonniamh · 10/07/2018 15:09

Willa - don't like it.
Aubree - that spelling is very chavvy in my opinion
Violet - beautiful and classic
Addy/adaline - Addy by itself is awful. Adeline spelt with an e is fine, with an A it looks like you can't spell
Paisley - very chavvy/American teen mom
Harper - ok, though not to my tastes
Darcie - I prefer it spelt Darcey

dw23 · 10/07/2018 15:23

Aubrey is unixsex name, probably more likely used for girls now, I only know it's unisex because my sister's father has the mn Aubrey. I like it in both Aubrey, Aubree forms, very popularised after Teen Mom so people will probably make the connection if you're okay with that.

Willa is pretty though, I think that has my vote.

TroubledLichen · 10/07/2018 15:33

Love Violet. Also love Adeline, I’ve never seen the spelling Adaline but it looks wrong and like you can’t spell (sorry!). I also like Aubrey but not the Aubree spelling. It’s not French though and is very American, it’s now a top 50 name for girls in the US so it’s definitely become more feminine than unisex in recent years.

SamanthaH92 · 10/07/2018 16:32

I'm getting these spellings of sites on google lol. Although looking at how my phone has auto corrected completely it would seem i cannot spell 🙈

OP posts:
firsttime17 · 10/07/2018 16:37

I love Harper as that was on my name list had my DS been a DD! Also like Violet and Aubree however I would probably spell it AubreySmilexx
