I've used this forum before and found it incredibly useful so I've returned for more advice.

Do you prefer Morven or Maeve? Their sibling is called Saoirse. We live in Scotland.

I prefer Morven.

Lindah1 · 07/07/2018 22:06

Oh god Maeve definitely

Madmarchpear · 07/07/2018 22:07

Oooo morven is nice.

VanGoghsLeftEar · 07/07/2018 22:08

Morven. I assume you are from an Irish family? Not many Morvens in my (English) neck of the woods. Smile

Chembe · 07/07/2018 22:08

Morven! Know quite a few maeve's (also in Scotland)

redmini4 · 07/07/2018 22:19

Both lovely but go for Morven

DramaAlpaca · 07/07/2018 23:09

Maeve

Joeybee · 08/07/2018 00:51

Maeve is lovely - Beautiful but strong. Also some cute nickname potential too. It's not overly popular and is an old name that needs to come back into use.

Morven - Don't like at all. Sounds like a Game of Thrones character or something. It's a little plain and boring, and no nickname potential. I'd prefer the name Morgan as an alternate. Also cn't see this as a girls name.

RavenWings · 08/07/2018 00:57

Maeve. Morven is a bit witchy sounding to me.

pennycarbonara · 08/07/2018 01:03

Guessed you were in Scotland OP just from the choices!

Morvern!

(Think it sounds cooler, but I might be even more biased because of a Maeve I used to know and didn't like much.)

@Joeybee Scottish and Irish people will recognise it, and it is known from the film and book Morvern Callar and there is a Scottish actress with the name too: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morven_Christie

Morven

Peachbubble · 08/07/2018 03:38

This is a tough one, as I like both - I'd choose Morven, but only just ahead of Maeve. Both are fab names.

Susannach · 08/07/2018 07:48

Love Morven

Trinnidad · 08/07/2018 08:26

Morven definitely. I’m from Scotland and I’ve only ever met one Morven so it’s likely to be a more unusual name for school etc.

17caterpillars1mouse · 08/07/2018 08:55

I prefer Morven but both are gorgeous names. Have you considered Mavis too?

Scottishgirl85 · 08/07/2018 08:59

We almost called our dd Morven (Scottish living in South England), I think it's lovely. But in the end we were put off by some people saying it had witchy connotations or sounded masculine, and the pronunciation in English accent isn't as nice. But since you live in Scotland where people will be more familiar with it, I'd go for it!

For some reason I find Maeve difficult to say, but maybe that's just me.

MariaMadita · 08/07/2018 09:39

I prefer Morven. It's a bit more interesting and I really like names that end in ven/wen.

I don't think it matters but I'm not Scottish (or Irish). Morven actually work rather well in German as well, btw. (well, in my opinion)

Icklepup · 08/07/2018 10:48

Maeve

duggeehug85 · 08/07/2018 11:19

Maybe ill just have to have a third so I can use them both!

Ozgirl01 · 08/07/2018 11:29

I like both names, but slightly prefer Maeve.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 08/07/2018 11:33
