I love the names Hugo & Digby but my friends have recently used these names on their dc.

Any suggestions for names along the same lines? Nothing too popular..

Humphrey surely has to be Humph, as in the much missed Humphrey Lyttleton. Nice name.

Quinton or Quentin

Clement

Oooh Quentin from Butterfly's list is fab too! I love Queenie for a girl too. I always think it'd be so cool to have a name starting with a 'Q'

Agree Humphrey would be Humph. I think it sounds cute on a baby and manly on an adult - doesn't get much cooler than Humphrey Bogart after all!

All the Humphreys I've ever met have been unusually handsome and clever. Good name.

Read a few “Famous 5” novels - I’m sure you’ll find similar names in there....!

I love the name Hugo, but it doesn't 'feel' right for our baby.
Other names I'd considered (before picking the name we are actually going to go with) are Raphael, Rafferty, Elliot, Nathaniel, Cedric, Otto, Milo, Otis. Also a name which I heard, which to me is similar is Bellamy.

Mousefunky · 06/07/2018 10:28

Rafferty?

Hugo is very southern and private school. Digby is a dogs name.

I can’t get past the Jacques (Jake-wheeze) post

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 06/07/2018 10:53

Good grief! I'd missed that. Is that a very old pronunciation of Jacques, like saying Don Quicksot instead of a vaguely Spanish pronunciation of Keehoetee, or forehead to rhyme with horrid instead of fourhead? I wouldn't give much for anybody's chances trying to enforce a pronuncation of Jake-wheeze over the far commoner French pronunciation, or a bad British attempt at same.

Giles, Guy, Miles, Edmund, Edmond, Roland, Rowley, Gideon, Gilbert, Nicholas.

Sweetsdo · 06/07/2018 12:22

I don't understand the fascination with people saying certain names are dogs names.
I know a dog called Daniel, woe before anyone who tries to name their child Daniel now Grin

ITS A DOGS NAME!! Hmm

I went to school with a Digby. Only one I’ve ever met, would be mid 30’s now, a couple of years older than me.

There was also an Antigone, Portia and an Athena. None from the same family.

Completely average state school in Cardiff.

Disfordarkchocolate · 06/07/2018 13:50

For those of us a little older than you probably are there was a very popular children's film. Digby, the biggest dog in the world.

Sweetsdo · 06/07/2018 13:56

I have heard of Digby the biggest dog, still wouldn't put me off using it if my friend hadn't got there first :)
