Still completely unsure as to baby names for two girls. I love the idea of same-initial twin names, so was thinking Alice and Althea, but Althea still doesn't seem right. Other contenders were Alice and Ada, but Violet was also a contender. Let me know what you think! The surname would be Valentine, and it would be Alice May and Althea Rose. Help!

How do you pronounce Althea?

Is it Al-thee-a or Al-Tay-a?

I know one pronounced Altaya which I love (she isn't English though).

Al-thee-a just doesn't sound like a finished name to me, more a random assortment of sounds.

Paranoixia · 24/06/2018 10:50

I also would give twins separate initials, to help them develop separate identities.

If you have to use the same initial, then I definitely wouldn't have the same first sound. What if they both end up wanting to use the nickname "Ally"?

Paranoixia · 24/06/2018 10:51

Also, if your surname starts with a V then I would definitely not use Violet.

Plus "Violet Valentine" sounds like a porn star/escort name.

Cbeebiesrehab · 24/06/2018 10:51

Although Althea would probably become Thea she could become Al and then you have an Al and Al situation. I don’t mind the matching initials as such but I would avoid the initial syllable being the same iyswim

Paranoixia · 24/06/2018 10:52

Just realised why I hate Althea.

It sounds like "Healthier" in a northern accent.

Cbeebiesrehab · 24/06/2018 10:52

Cross post with Para but making the same point lol

Dangerousminds · 24/06/2018 10:54

I would avoid same initials for twins personally. Maybe have one of the middle names as a first name? As pp has said I wouldn't us violet with your surname.

AlbaFloss · 24/06/2018 10:54

How about Alice with Celia - same letters!

SeagullsStopItNow · 24/06/2018 10:54

Violet Valentine sounds really cool! Hate Alice so much (sorry)
Thea is nicer than Althea or even Dorothea?

May and Rose are the most boring middle names in the world.
Maya and Rosa would jazz them up a bit.

SeagullsStopItNow · 24/06/2018 10:55

Oh actually, reading it back Violet Valentine sounds like a spurned lover taking revenge!

TheCraicDealer · 24/06/2018 11:09

Don't give them the same initial unless you love both names independently of each other. Firstly because it's a pain in the arse getting post for "Miss A Valentine" and trying to determine who it belongs to.

Secondly you're having two babies who are people in their own right, not a matching pair. Imagine being Althea for example and knowing your name was only picked so it would "match" Alice's. As a twin myself I think that's a bit tragic tbh.

HJL2506 · 24/06/2018 11:18

My eldest son has initial "S" and we are expecting our second son that will also probably have an "S" initial. This is purely coincidence as we love both the names. If they were twins I just couldn't give the same initial. I think it will be hard enough having them 2 years apart but twins with the same initial will be difficult at school etc.

I love Violet and that is also our name if we have a girl in the future. I also love Everly for a girl.

GrumbleBumble · 24/06/2018 11:23

Violet doesn't work with Valentine sorry. Please give them different initials (oh and avoid cutesy matching or rhyming names). My sibling and I have the same initial (we aren't twins and we are different sexes) it was a pain while we lived in the same house. Give them names that allow them to have their own identity rather than half of a pair.

userabcname · 24/06/2018 11:37

Not a fan of Althea. I like Ada the best out of your options and Alice is quite nice too. I am also a fan of Annabel as another A name option.

Cbeebiesrehab · 24/06/2018 11:38

I agree that Ada and Alice are lovely together

MariaMadita · 24/06/2018 12:27

May is such a boring middle name imo... (Rose is rather common -as in popular- as well but it's just nicer than May imo.)

I personally like the idea of a more "subtle" theme. Like both girls having flower / nature related middle (or first) names... There are just so many lovely flower names imo. (Rose, Violet, Iris, Heather, Daisy, Lily, Ivy, Linnea, Flora, Clementine, Marguerite, Lavender...)

I'm not too fond of matching names / initials. But Alice and Althea actually work surprisingly well imo. They may start with the same letters but have a very different 'feel'.

Alice Flora and Althea Rose?

Paranoixia · 24/06/2018 12:29

If you like Althea, what about Anthea?

duplodancer · 24/06/2018 12:33

Alice and Ada are lovely together.
Alice and Anna
Alice and Annabelle
Alice and Adele
Alice and Ava

MariaMadita · 24/06/2018 12:48

I really like Alice and Anna. That's a great suggestion imo :)

MummyFaith03 · 24/06/2018 12:49
