What are the most overused baby names you know at the moment?

Trying to decide on a name for DC2 at the moment and would like something that won't seem "dated" in so many years to come.

There's a few names I keep hearing pop up at baby groups etc that feel a bit "faddy" and "of the moment" and would like to avoid that if possible. Hoping to avoid a name that becomes the Tracey, Sharon, David or Gary etc of this generation.

I've noticed a lot of names hyphenated with Rose, (which is an absolutely beautiful name) but kind of has the shine taken off it when its so overused in various combinations.

What names make you think "oh, not another one!?"

Discotits · 24/06/2018 07:43

That regional thing says Norbert is the most popular name in my area. Confused

applesandpears56 · 24/06/2018 07:45

Yeah I don’t think it works very well as it says ‘baby’ is a popular name in my area!

Discotits · 24/06/2018 07:46

Yes! Baby was the fourth most popular list. I like the idea of the web page though.

Discotits · 24/06/2018 07:46

*on the list

Vagndidit · 24/06/2018 07:52

Our reception class has FOUR Olivias this year. FOUR.

Swishswish26 · 24/06/2018 08:04

Ella, Evie, Isla, Ava, Isabel- all crazily popular.
Same with Noah, Jack, Freddie, Harrison, George.
90% of girls seems to have the middle name May/Mai/Rose/Grace generally hyphenated.

charlyn · 24/06/2018 08:54

Isla and Arlo

Vintagegirl77 · 24/06/2018 09:17

At my dcs primary school there are multiples of Olivia, Max, Alfie, Ava and Oliver. I still think they are nice names though and they are all lovely kids with really nice parents.

I remember when DD started school she told my mum the boys in her class were called ‘Freddie, Teddie, Charlie, Jack, Harry, Henry and Bertie’, my mum asked if she was at school with a WW1 batillion 😆.

Lily, Daisy, Ella, might as well just call your child Blah, Blah, Blah.
They all just morph in to one another there’s so many.
Oh and Charlotte and Olivia.

Oliver, I swear I know a thousand Olivers.
Dylan and Jacob are also super, super popular, loads of them at our school.

Steeley113 · 24/06/2018 10:50

Harry! My eldest is called Harry and I had no idea how popular it was until he was about 6 months old and every baby at playgroup was called Harry Grin there’s 3 in his class Blush

Lots of Charlie’s, Alfie’s and Islas around here. TBH I love the names and think people can be so rude about popular names, they are popular for a reason!

I did learn from my first though and picked classic, normal but not too popular names for my next 2 children though. Just so I don’t have 10 kids turn around when I call their name in soft play Grin

Frazzled2207 · 24/06/2018 11:08

Lily, Ella, Evie, Amelia etc plus a few Lillys which I genuinely don't get.

Anything -Mai/May/Mae or -Rae

Interestingly round here there don't seem to be any boys names which are so viscously duplicated. But generally a lot of Alfie/Archie/Stanley etc which I think will date.

moomoo85 · 24/06/2018 15:03

Randomly the most common name I have come across at the moment seems to be Stanley. I know of 5.

Jj2431 · 24/06/2018 17:00

We have so many of the following around here

Lily
Ella
Amelia
Olivia
Esme
Jack
Oliver
Leo
