What are the most overused baby names you know at the moment?

Trying to decide on a name for DC2 at the moment and would like something that won't seem "dated" in so many years to come.

There's a few names I keep hearing pop up at baby groups etc that feel a bit "faddy" and "of the moment" and would like to avoid that if possible. Hoping to avoid a name that becomes the Tracey, Sharon, David or Gary etc of this generation.

I've noticed a lot of names hyphenated with Rose, (which is an absolutely beautiful name) but kind of has the shine taken off it when its so overused in various combinations.

What names make you think "oh, not another one!?"

Anything ending in an ee sound or an o at the moment.
Theo

Willow (a boy)

Kenzie
Milly
Lily
Daisy
Ellie

Oh and the random last name as first name thing which makes me wonder what the girl will do if she marries someone with her name as a surname. McKenzie, Cooper, Porter etc

I agree that regions must vary at lot. The top 100 doesn't seem very representative of my area, I was quite surprised by a few on there

I think there is a difference between names - particularly boys' names - which have been very popular for literally hundreds of years - like Jack and William - and which are very common today, and those which have only become very popular in the last few years - like Oscar, Noah, Ezra, Finn and Theo. The latter group are the ones which are going to date; the former group, not so much.

I agree mother with the exception of George, Harry and Charlie!

SleepFreeZone · 23/06/2018 22:14

Isabelle around here. Lots and lots of Izzies.

knowledgeofnone · 23/06/2018 22:19

Caiden/kaiden/kayden there are loads of them here. Archie and William are also very common as is Flynn/Finn.

For girls Freya, Amelia and Charlotte are all very common there are quite a few Hannah's.

Halebeke425 · 23/06/2018 22:21

South west here. Can't move for baby 'Ava's

Both DC have got loads of Olivers in there year groups, I think in year 5 it's something silly like 6 of them?!

Other names I hear a hell of a lot are Ellie/Ella/Elsie
Isla
Oscar

ScarletLouise · 23/06/2018 22:24

Re Henry it's very used and popular but not in a faddy 'of the moment way'- it's just a consistently strong and traditional boys name that stays in fashion through the decades. This applies to a lot of names.

furandchandeliers · 23/06/2018 22:41

Harper is in the top 100 though isn't it?

Picknickers · 23/06/2018 22:54

RedDwarves · 23/06/2018 23:01

I know a million Amelias and a million Harpers.

For boys, it's Noah.

captainproton · 23/06/2018 23:01

There are 5 Joshua’s in my sons class, but then it’s a classic name.

Dateable names like surnames I reckon are the Trevor/Cliffs of the future sorry any mums of Coopers etc.

Girls names ending in an -ie or -ia. And the ubiquitous Grace, Isla and Freya’s. so vanilla and always many of them.

Sashkin · 23/06/2018 23:06

We have a lot of Myla/Mila/Lila around here (Brixton/East Dulwich). And Ada/Ava/Eva/Evie.

For boys, I still see a lot of Olivers, Noahs and Jacks.

RachelfromFriends · 23/06/2018 23:07

They're all called Lily and if not they all have the middle name May / Mai! In South Wales

Littlepond · 23/06/2018 23:07

Where I work there are a thousand -Mae names, mostly Lacey-Mae but also Lilly-Mae, Holly-Mae, Evie-Mae, Dolly-Mae, I even know a Billie-Mae!

shelikesemwithamoustache · 23/06/2018 23:11

Ella (5 of them in my son’s class), oliver, fin/Finley, Evie/eva/Ava, lily

scrivette · 23/06/2018 23:28
