Heard it for the first time recently and quite like it. What's your thoughts?

How’s it pronounced Lie-Riss? Lirr-is?not keen and think it’ll be mispronunciation a go go

FissionChips · 16/06/2018 16:12

Sounds like some kind of bacteria.

letsallhaveanap · 16/06/2018 16:12

I think it would look prettier with a Y.. so Lyris.. but then you would forever be correcting people from Lyra or Iris...
I think they are all beautiful sounding names though

MeyYael · 16/06/2018 16:22

How is that pronounced?

Ee-rees? Ee-ree? Eye-ris?

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 16/06/2018 16:23

How are you getting the EE pronunciation from Lyris?

MeyYael · 16/06/2018 16:26

Liris

Lee-ree(s)?

An "i" sounds like ee in various languages.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 16/06/2018 16:28

Fair enough, further potential pronunciation in the mix
Op needs to clarify the pronunciation

BelfortGabbz · 16/06/2018 18:20

Pronounced like Lyric and Iris iyswim. I also thought Lyris looks prettier.

Haven’t a clue what you're describing, Pronounced like Lyric and Iris . No I don’t get what you mean at all
let’s face it.mispronunciation is going to be a habitual thing

MeyYael · 16/06/2018 18:27

But lyric and Iris aren't pronounced the same...

Is it ly-riss or leye-riss?

BelfortGabbz · 16/06/2018 18:38

Ly-riss. Sorry for the confusion.

OP posts:
LipstickHandbagCoffee · 16/06/2018 18:39

Ok if you’re combining Lyric and Iris I’d pronounce that Lirr Is
Lyrics and iris are pronounced differently
But looking at Lyris it could be many pronunciation I’d assume

Lie Riss
Lirr Is

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 16/06/2018 18:41

Ly Riss, you will habitually be correcting that it isn’t Iris,as that’s were the empahasis on name falls
I love iris as a name Btw so that’s no a bad thing

BelfortGabbz · 16/06/2018 18:47

The Li sounded like it does in Lyric.

mzsink · 16/06/2018 18:48

I though you described the pronunciation well.

Much prefer lyris

Topseyt · 16/06/2018 18:52

I think people will just be totally confused by it. This thread demonstrates that too.

I'm not keen. It sounds as though you just made it up, even if you did hear it elsewhere.

MeyYael · 16/06/2018 18:53

Lyris is actually a 'real' name and the pronunciation is a bit more intuitive imo (I'd probably pronounce Liris like Iris).

You might also like Liorit, Larisse and Lyra.

MeyYael · 16/06/2018 18:54

"Lyris is actually a 'real' name"

*I believe...

Moonkissedlegs · 16/06/2018 18:55

It sounds like a skin condition or something.

BelfortGabbz · 16/06/2018 19:07

It was the name of a model on Project Runway. Sounded prettier the more I heard it, especially when Tim Gunn said it.

OP posts:
4GreenApples · 16/06/2018 19:10

I assumed this was a typo for Iris when I saw the thread title.

I’d have guessed at a pronunciation of Lie-riss for a name spelt Liris.

kocerhan3 · 16/06/2018 21:52

I don't like it, personally - I like Iris (my nans name and definitely coming back into fashion) however I also know a Larissa - similar but pretty :)

PureColdWind · 16/06/2018 22:47

Does it rhyme with virus?

I don't like it - it sounds clinical or like some sort of software for a computer.

Atalune · 16/06/2018 22:50

I know a Lyra and a Lyric.

Liris....it does sound a bit like a skin condition!

Shock

Unfortunately yes
