Would Lockie as a girls name be too unusual? We are really struggling with girls name and this is the only one I love but according to some research I've done it hasn't been used as a girls name since 1950!

My son has an unusual but old fashioned name and I want something along those same lines but don't want to set up my potential girl for a life of name misery!

It sounds like a nickname to me. The Lockie i know is called that by friends because his surname is Lock Grin

Glumglowworm · 14/06/2018 19:24

I don’t think so

Lachlan/Lochlan is a boy’s name and I would assume Lockie was short for that and a boy

17caterpillars1mouse · 14/06/2018 19:32

I quite like it but it feels like it needs a full name too and I'm not sure what that would be

WaxOnFeckOff · 14/06/2018 19:54

Still a boys name but looks a bit more feminine, Laughlin with the nn Lockie?

But then I know female Moray, Logan, Nairne, Cameron and Brodie and I'm sure some more, I think Scottish surnames are used for girls sometimes as well as boys.

DramaAlpaca · 14/06/2018 20:46

I don't personally like it at all, but it's not awful. I'm not seeing any teasing potential. I wish I could think of something it could be short for, but I'm drawing a complete blank.

BertrandRussell · 14/06/2018 20:51

Can you give some ideas of other names you like and we'll try to think of something? Lockie is awful-sorry.

whoknowswhynow · 14/06/2018 20:52

@BertrandRussell there is literally no other names that I like for a girl, that's why we are struggling so much. Maybe I am just destined for boys 🤷🏻‍♀️

BertrandRussell · 14/06/2018 20:56

There has to be. What about names you tolerate to start with? What boy's names do you like? And where in earth did Lockie come from?

whoknowswhynow · 14/06/2018 20:58

Ok so boys name we are going to use either Rex or Reginald (leaning more towards Rex). I do also like Sidney for a girl, I think we can sense a theme here!
Was considering Lockie for a boy and then found it has also been used for women in the past!

Sidney is much nicer than Lockie. Lockie is... not great.

C0untDucku1a · 14/06/2018 21:01

Love syndey. Wanted sindey for my ds.

C0untDucku1a · 14/06/2018 21:02

I meant Sidney

BertrandRussell · 14/06/2018 21:02

Do think about what you're saying to a girl by giving her a boy's name. Honestly- try and find a girl's name you can at least tolerate rather than a boy's.

Candyflip · 14/06/2018 21:02

My sister is Lucy but has always been known as Lucky, I really like it, even though it is a dog’s name!

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 14/06/2018 21:04

Seriously, out of all the millions of girl’s names available, the only one you can “literally” tolerate is Lockie? Confused
What attracts you to it?
If I heard someone refer to Lockie, I’d think they were talking about a horse.

C0untDucku1a · 14/06/2018 21:06

Sydney is a girls name. Go for that.

WaxOnFeckOff · 14/06/2018 21:06

Similar to your boys choices:

Regina
Alexa
Beatrix (Bex)

Unisex:
Jaime
Alex
Sydney
D'arcy
Bailey
Regan

Audreyhelp · 14/06/2018 21:07

I really love the name it’s unusual but pretty

MikeUniformMike · 14/06/2018 21:08

Sydney for a girl is fine. Lockie is too nn. Locket might be slightly better.

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 14/06/2018 21:09

Locket??

CormoranStrike · 14/06/2018 21:09

In instantly thought Lochia - sorry.

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 14/06/2018 21:09

Little Lucy Locket...

swimmerlab · 14/06/2018 21:11

Same as a pp, the Lockie I know is called it because he has the surname Lock.

I really don't think it's a nice name for a girl, or a boy.

WowserBowser · 14/06/2018 21:12

I can't get passed thinking of that guy from Towie

DianaBlythe · 14/06/2018 21:14

I know someone with a cat called Loki which is quite sweet.
