Jagger or River - baby boy names

Which do you prefer???

I’ve fallen for two names for my baby boy...I need your help selecting one...

Jagger James Rainnie
River (middle name not selected) Rainnie

If you like one, or really don’t like one, please let me know and why....

My name starts with R and I like the idea of an RR name for my boy but I’m not keen on many boy names with R - apart from River.

Jagger is a name on my baby list for years and I recently dreamt my baby asked to be called this (but don’t let that sway your choice).

Thank you!!!

Rudy and Remy Rainne are too rhymey but the others are nice.

Glumglowworm · 08/06/2018 15:07

River is a better than Jagger as a name but is awful with your surname

Both options are pretty shit to be honest

SoupDragon · 08/06/2018 15:07

Ranulph is an alternative to Randolph if you wanted to avoid Randy 😂

HeyDolly · 08/06/2018 15:49

River is better than Jagger but I really don’t think it goes well with your surname.

Brendatheblender · 08/06/2018 15:56

Jagger is too harsh and River is too wet.

BarbaraWarpecker · 08/06/2018 16:08

I 'm afraid I really don't like Jagger. For a baby, or a grown up man. Maybe a groovy 8 year old could carry it off.
I don't like the sound of it, or the association with serial philandering ageing pop star.

ButterflyOfFreedom · 08/06/2018 16:12

I've surprised myself and quite like Jagger!!
I'd never use it though - sounds good as a nickname maybe.
Mick is the obvious connection.

Not keen on River esp River Rainne- definitely sounds to wet!!

deptfordgirl · 08/06/2018 16:13

River is quite nice but I associate it wih Jamie Oliver now. Not so keen on Jagger.

rainingcatsanddog · 08/06/2018 16:23

I think that nature names don't match your surname as it also sounds like a nature name. It's ok if he turns out to be outdoorsy but if he's not, it will get annoying for him.

Are you a Rolling Stones fan? Everybody will associate you (and later your son) with them.m and their music.

MikeUniformMike · 08/06/2018 16:39

How about Sunny as a name?
Sunny Rainnie has a cheerfulness to it.

daisypond · 08/06/2018 16:58

Jagger is terrible. Jago is good, as has been suggested. I'm not keen on River either, especially with your surname. Could you use Rio - Spanish for River - but a bit less obvious? Rio Rainnie is still rhymey but I think it's loads better.

WyldDucks · 08/06/2018 17:02

River "water cycle" Raine?

Cosmoa · 08/06/2018 18:28

There was a guy called Jager (pronounced Jagger) on The Island a few years ago and I remember thinking it was great name.. It suited the guy well. People over think things and assume kids will be bullied for a name. It's just not true. Kids are fresh beings who don't know which names are unusual. Duh!

JuicySwan · 08/06/2018 18:30

They’re both awful.

MissCherryCakeyBun · 08/06/2018 18:50

Rainy River......that will be his nickname at school. I have an unusual name and my brother has the initials J.A-B he still gets called Jabba and Hut by old school friends Confused
Think carefully

GruffaloPants · 08/06/2018 18:50

Round these parts "jagging" is injecting heroin. So, no.

River Rainnie sounds daft. Like being called "Flower Smellie" or "Axel Wheelie".

Shmithecat · 08/06/2018 18:55

River - Phoenix. Nope.
Jagger - Mick. Nope.
Both awful.

BonnieF · 08/06/2018 19:00

Jagger is ridiculous. Poor kid Sad.

River is marginally better, but still sounds very silly indeed with your surname.

Fabricwitch · 08/06/2018 19:10

I like them both but prefer River, it's soft and natural sounding, seems like a very down to earth name.

Pemba · 08/06/2018 19:32

No to Jagger, are people really using this as a first name now? Apart from Mick Jagger, it also gives unpleasant associations of jagged, dagger, etc.

River is nice, in a mildly hippyish kind of way. A much more tranquil name.

LucyJ61 · 08/06/2018 19:59

Another fan of Jago here. Jago Rainie sounds cool.

fairgame84 · 08/06/2018 20:08

I know a Jagger. The little boy has an Indian surname and it goes together really well.
I think it depends on the surname as to whether it sounds good or naff.

Guacamoledip · 08/06/2018 20:57

I like both of them (unhelpful)

whatamigoingtodo87 · 09/06/2018 05:23

Go with what you're happy with!

Personally I'm not keen on either, but then a lot of people were not keen on my names I'd selected for a boy.

Good luck x

Have you considered Balonz?
