When you can't agree!

Has anyone had the dilemma of not being able to agree because your tastes are SO different? (His names are terrible IMO but who's to say it's not a matter of personal taste)

I like (girls); Billie, Cassia, Valentina, (boys); Cassius, Idris, Solomon

DP like (girls); no suggestions just wont agree with mine, (boys); Thor, Max, Ajaxx Confused

What do I do with this? What's the middle ground? And Thor? Really? Help!!

As you're the one physically giving birth, you get the final say! 😉

ShackUp · 03/06/2018 08:34

When in the final throes of labour, you scream through gritted teeth, 'HIS. NAME. IS. X!' like I did both times Grin

Louellah · 03/06/2018 08:35

@funmummy48 haha! Sadly DP is a stubborn git and would laugh at me if I suggested this. He wants one we both like (and I would quite like us to agree also Smile)

Thor and Ajaxx? Max is fine, that would be my compromise to him.

calzone · 03/06/2018 08:39

Ajax is terrible.

I have a Max and he adores his name.

Snowysky20009 · 03/06/2018 08:39

Ajaxx wasn't that a cleaning product my nan used when I was little? (And scrubbed my skin with it when I covered myself in gloss paint? I was 3 by the way)

frasier · 03/06/2018 08:40

I had the final say. Luckily DH was so in awe of having a son he would have agreed to anything lol!

Can you not have a first and second name, one yours one DP’s? Choose the order by which sounds best.

Solomon Thor sounds better than Thor Soloman for instance.

Wait until baby is born and see what they look like

As for DP having no girl suggestions, then that is up to you then. No suggestions = no opinion.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 03/06/2018 08:42

Have you tried namedtogether.com? Might get a couple you agree on.

I think first posters comment is ludicrous. He can’t have the baby himself even if he was desperate to.

Louellah · 03/06/2018 08:44

@calzone Max is a lovely name but my mum's dog is called Max and I just couldn't do that! Grin

Louellah · 03/06/2018 08:45

@Snowysky20009 yes and my response every time he suggests it is 'you cannot name a child after bleach!' - may as well call him Flash or Dettol

OP posts:
Louellah · 03/06/2018 08:46

@frasier Thor is not being used, at all Grin it's terrible! DP Loves Marvel and it's his favourite character. I think Gamora is a cool game (Guardians of the Galaxy) but I wouldn't name my child after her!

OP posts:
Louellah · 03/06/2018 08:47

@ThroughThickAndThin01 I'd really like us to both agree (though mourning Cassius a little). I'll definitely google that now. Thanks!

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 03/06/2018 08:49

I don’t think your names are as far apart as you think (apart from Max). Both lists are a little more..unusual? Neither if you exactly wanting Jack or Charlotte.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 03/06/2018 08:49

Good luck with finding something!

mistermagpie · 03/06/2018 08:53

I don't think your tastes are that different either, it's not like you like Kayden and he likes Bartholomew is it?

I actually quite like Thor but then I like Scandinavian names (I have a Magnus).

SeagullsStopItNow · 03/06/2018 08:54

Axel?
Love Valentina for your girls name. I know a little girl called Romance, Roma for short.
Lyla and Lyra are nice too if you like names ending in an a.

LynetteScavo · 03/06/2018 08:55

The answer is Angus or Verity

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 03/06/2018 08:55

Could a compromise be something like Torin nn Tor?

I heard a Lincoln shortened to Link the other day which I thought was cool.

Louellah · 03/06/2018 08:59

@mistermagpie Youre right they're definitely not John and Jane names! Though I still maintain that my choices are far more normal haha!

@SeagullsStopItNow makes me think of Axel Rose or the rod which goes through a wheel Lyla and Lyra are lovely but we'd like quite a strong name for our little one.

SeagullsStopItNow · 03/06/2018 09:11

Hmm, ok.

Rex? I know a Rex aged 10/11.

Asa?

Raphaela/Raphy
Lydia
Nova
Aster

InkSnail · 03/06/2018 09:20

Could Saul be a compromise between Solomon and Thor?

Or one of these...?

Alex, Arlo, Felix, Arthur, Theo, Ethan, Zachary, Amos, Luke, Mathias, Jarvis, Vincent, Tristan

Thea, Cora, Stella, Amelie, Roxy, Christina, Iris, Sophia, Callie, Imogen, Valerie, Astrid, Xanthe

Louellah · 03/06/2018 09:21

I wish I could write a post along the lines of 'what name goes with the surname' - but it's so unusual and there are only a handful in the UK so I would be completely outed!

OP posts:
Louellah · 03/06/2018 09:23

@InkSnail you've just named my brother's name, my mum's name and my sister's middle name! How odd! I live Calliope shortened to Callie but DP said no. Have also suggested Xanthe but again DP said no. I'm starting to think he just wants to think of a name himself!

OP posts:
frasier · 03/06/2018 09:26

I'm starting to think he just wants to think of a name himself!

My friend’s partner was like this. But he was like that about everything. If she suggested Chinese take out he’d say pizza. If she said they ought to buy s lawn mower, he said s sythe! Seriously!

Louellah · 03/06/2018 09:31

@frasier it's really annoying. If he suggested a wonderful name and I loved it I would roll with it. I actually would likely think it was really nice DC was named by their dad! Genuinely starting to think it's a pride thing and he wants to have names DC himself. He came up with the name for his DD and his ex agreed with it as they both liked it. Hmm...
