Rob/Robert?

FintyTin · 11/06/2018 20:06

Not Robert, sorry.

throwcushions · 11/06/2018 20:38

Lloyd?

LadyGAgain · 12/06/2018 06:48

Clark?

FintyTin · 12/06/2018 09:32

Not Lloyd or Clark...although Clark does fit most of the clues pretty well.

finallychangedmyusername · 12/06/2018 10:35

Owain?

Bexter801 · 12/06/2018 12:29

Gavin?

FintyTin · 12/06/2018 12:46

@finallychangedmyusername has it: Owen/Owain.

Owen Meany is the book.
I admit the bank reference doesn’t work quite so well in the Welsh pronunciation, but...
Owen Harper from Torchwood.

I couldn’t work out a Glyndŵr reference without completely giving it away!

Well done and over to you! Smile

Bexter801 · 12/06/2018 13:04

Noooo,I thought I had it! Well done @finallychangedmyusername Smile

finallychangedmyusername · 12/06/2018 18:41

Yay, thank you @Bexter801 and @FintyTin.

Next one:

A muddled surprise automobile route lengthens our pubescent scorned misfit and fictitional columnist.

finallychangedmyusername · 12/06/2018 18:53

Just realised that might be my oddest sounding clue yet! Grin

throwcushions · 12/06/2018 19:27

Carrie?

finallychangedmyusername · 12/06/2018 19:34

Well done @throwcushions, it was Caroline/Carrie.

Surprise" = oh! Or o
"Automobile" = car
"Route" = line

So o + car + line ... except it's muddled or jumbled, so then car + o + line makes Caroline.

The pubescent scorned misfit is Stephen King's Carrie and the fictional columnist is another Carrie, Sex and the City's Carrie Bradshaw. A lengthened form of Carrie is Caroline.

throwcushions · 12/06/2018 20:08

Hooray! I didn't get the cryptic clue but it's a great one. I love cryptic crosswords though I'm not much good at them!

This first lady is a real witch, a large drink and two letters of the alphabet to her friends.

FintyTin · 12/06/2018 21:09

Eleanor?

finallychangedmyusername · 12/06/2018 21:31

Catherine/Katherine?

throwcushions · 12/06/2018 21:35

Neither of those.

trueblueari · 13/06/2018 00:21

Abigail

throwcushions · 13/06/2018 07:11

Yes trueblueari! Abigail is right.

First lady - wife of John Adams and wife of Millard Fillmore

A real witch - Abigail from the Crucible, who accuses others but is engaged in witchcraft herself

A large drink - a big ale!

Two letters to her friends - A B (abby)

trueblueari · 13/06/2018 10:09

Yay!! The only one I didn't get was the tall drink one. Very clever! grin

This Spanish lady is simply precious. She has connections to Paris too, as she's a traveller.

finallychangedmyusername · 13/06/2018 10:19

Esmerelda?

trueblueari · 13/06/2018 11:52

finallychangedmyusername yes - maybe that was too easy!
Spanish - the name is Spanish, precious - it means emerald, connection to Paris/traveller - Esmeralda from the Hunchback of Notre Dame is a gypsy.
Over to you!

finallychangedmyusername · 13/06/2018 14:32

Yay again! Ok, next one:

The Messiah chimes once or incomplete poem or political activist.

MeyYael · 13/06/2018 15:17

I'm not from the UK/the anglosphere so idk... It's possible that I simply thought of different things than you did.

But Pauline fits imo.

FintyTin · 13/06/2018 16:52

Christabel?
