I've loved this name for years but is it too popular now? How many Lilys do you know?

I know 3. I think it depends where you live.

userabcname · 27/05/2018 17:57

I know 1 baby Lily and have taught a few teen ones. In my area it's not that popular - there are definitely more popular ones (Amelia/Amelie and Isla spring to mind immediately). I think it's a lovely name.

daisypond · 27/05/2018 17:59

I do like it. The only younger Lily I know is in her 20s - perhaps her parents were ahead of the curve. And an older Lily in her 80s.

Jj2431 · 27/05/2018 18:15

Far too popular but if you like it go for it, or how about Lilian.

Paddingtonthebear · 27/05/2018 18:18

Loads, personally I know about 5, plus through my work there are many girls called Lily, newborn to 10yrs. And my dog is called Lily (she already had the name when we got her)

MrsCD67 · 27/05/2018 18:19

@Jj2431 Mmmm DH likes Lilian but I prefer Lilith or just Lily Confused Lilith is offputting because of the demon connection Sad

It’s very popular, I know loads.

daisypond · 27/05/2018 18:41

I like Lilian too. I see Lily as a name from 20 years ago, so Lilian seems more fresh to me. Lilith is a completely different name - I wouldn't touch it with the proverbial bargepole. How about Lilias? Another version of Lily and not very common at all. I like that as well.

ladymelbourne1926 · 27/05/2018 18:50

Very popular I know a ridiculous 7 Lily's all under 4.

StillNoClue · 27/05/2018 19:03

I know one whose about 14 months old and the other is about 9ish.

This was one of my preferences for a girl.

DrScully · 27/05/2018 19:04

It’s very popular. But then, it’s very beautiful. IMO he popular names are popular because they are lovely, and people want to use a name they love for their precious child.

DramaAlpaca · 27/05/2018 19:06

I don't know any children called Lily, just a lovely elderly lady.

It's one of the nicest flower names, simple and pretty without being cutesy. I like Lilian & Liliana too.

CocoAndTheChocolates · 27/05/2018 19:08

Actually don't know any. Do know a Lilia which I think is lovely

LilacIris · 27/05/2018 19:08

I know of one and she is lovely.

Jj2431 · 27/05/2018 19:24

Yeah. Wouldn't use lilith for that reason. I like Delilah but I've been put off for the connection in the bible and that wasn't as bad as lilith ha ha

ellalouise90 · 27/05/2018 19:26

It is a very popular name but a very beautiful name 😊 some unique versions of it could be;
Lilia ( on the list for DD2 name )
Liliana
Leilah
Lilah

daisypond · 27/05/2018 19:38

Leilah and Lilah aren't versions of Lily, though - they're different names with different origins.

ellalouise90 · 27/05/2018 19:38

@daisypond they're similar though 😃

Youvegotafriendinme · 27/05/2018 19:42

I know 2. Ones 34 and the others 21. I’ve met lots of little Lily’s through work and asking LOs names. Seems very popular but I still love it

littlepooch · 27/05/2018 19:47

I know 4. 3 under 15 months old and one in her teens. I still like the name though :)

LittleBirdBlues · 27/05/2018 19:49

I know 3 under the age of 4, but I think it's a lovely name :)

If you are looking for something less popular, iris is also a gorgeous name.

Joeybee · 27/05/2018 22:30

Personally don't know any. That's probably as this name was popular 5-10 years ago and has started to dive off the charts (as popular names tend to after a few years). Lily is a nice, elegant, pretty name. There won't be a bunch of them in your child's class, it's familiar, not chavvy and I think a name that grows with a child into adulthood.

RedDwarves · 28/05/2018 00:50

I don't know any, and it has been decreasing in popularity where I live for a few years now.

LinoleumBlownapart · 28/05/2018 01:15

I know two, one is 12 and one is in her 20's and not from the UK

jamsyoink · 30/05/2018 22:30

My grandmother from my dad’s side is named Lily.
