Not too 'Welsh' Welsh names

Baby will be going to Welsh school but our surname isn't a Welsh one so we want a name that is Welsh but not one that is massively Welsh and won't go with the surname.
Eg bethan is fine but Isyllt a bit OTT.

I'm not Welsh so I'm not 100% if all my suggestion are actually Welsh...

Aneirin, Tudor, Yale, Carys, Eira (also used in Swedish), Bran, Alis, Enid, Ffion, Nia, Gwen, Ianto, Ioan (also used in continental/Eastern Europe, btw).

It's Esyllt not Isyllt.
Ifor is welsh and pronounced YV-orr
Ivan isn't welsh but Ifan is and pronounced YV-ann.
Cariad is dreadful - it's welsh for Love, Darling, Sweetheart, Boyfriend/girlfriend, charity.
Tegan is welsh for toy.

How about David for a boy?
I'd pick a name you like that is not going to cause pronunciation or spelling issues.

I think it's Elin not Eira that is also used in Sweden.

Really? Oh, just googled and it is. There you've taught me something.
I would avoid using it as it has pronunciation issues. It gets said as Ira by some and the Eir combination doesn't have an english equivalent.

I have an Alys. Also in Wales but we are English.

Brân has a circumflex on the a. Welsh for Crow, but is a name from the Mabinogi.
Tegan is a lovely name but isn't really suitable in Wales.
Yale is welsh - Iâl.
Is Daf a short form of Dafydd? Dei in N Wales, Dai in S Wales.

Some names seem dated to me - I went to a welsh school in the 80s and there were lots of girls called Siân, Rhian, Carys, Bethan, Sioned, Nia and Eleri. The boys had names like Dylan, Dewi, Gareth, Huw, Siôn. Some names are probably likely to be more popular with non-welsh speaking parents e.g. Anwen, Seren, Bethan, Carys.

My favourite is Bryn

Bryn is nice but perhaps a little short for our surname. I had actually considered Tomos and Steffan. Alys also nice but not a fan of Tegan.
I really like some of the old Welsh names like Buddug and Dwynwen but I think it'll look silly with our surname.
Should add we are Welsh speaking as our both families so pronunciation and spelling not an issue for us.
