Baby is due this week Shock and we still haven’t got a name, so any thoughts on this shortlist and any other suggestions?! We ‘like’ all of these but not really sure if any of them is the one....

Nicholas
Alexander
Jacob
Joshua
Elliott
Nathaniel
Elias
Robert
Lucas
Aidan
Caleb
Aaron

Surname begins with F and is one syllable, so trying to avoid names that are only one syllable as it all sounds a bit short.

I really like Robert.

helpmum2003 · 20/05/2018 21:50

I love Alexander the most and also like Nicholas/Jacob/Robert.

Some other possibilities :

Noah
Adam
Gabriel
(too much RS revision I think!!)
Christopher

Thanks for the replies. I really like Robert as well but am a bit put off by some of the nicknames - Bob, Rob etc - that I think might be inevitable. Also love Alexander and would probably have gone with this if not for the fact that DD2 is Alice and I don’t know whether Alice and Alex are too similar.

It’s funny that you’ve mentioned the ones I particularly like - I really love Nicholas but when I mentioned it to DD1 (who’s 4) she laughed and said it was silly because it’s got ‘knickers’ in it Hmm so now I’m a bit put off it in case he gets teased when he’s older.... argh, this is so hard!!

Nicholas, Alexander, Jacob, Joshua and Elliot are nice.

You could use more than one eg
Nicholas Alexander
Or
Jacob Elliot

WhereIsThisBaby · 20/05/2018 22:52

I do like Christopher but think it’s a bit of a mouthful with our surname beginning with F.

We didn’t give our DDs middle names so it would feel a bit mean giving this baby one - which increases the pressure to get his one name just right!

Knickers Grin

I love Alexander! Quite like Nathaniel and Jacob too.

Dashie · 20/05/2018 23:00

You could use Alexander but with the nn Xander instead of Alex.
Alice and Xander.

Loopytiles · 20/05/2018 23:01

Like most of those! Wouldn’t know how to pronounce Elias, and the name caleb often seems to be used for baddies in US young adult fiction and TV!

Sophronia · 20/05/2018 23:35

I like Nicholas, Robert and Aaron best.

RavenWings · 20/05/2018 23:49

Aidan, Lucas and Nathaniel for me.

Conrad, Niall, Cormac, Christian, Emmet - any of those appeal?

sonlypuppyfat · 20/05/2018 23:51

Wow a list of proper actual names, I don't think that you will go far wrong with any of them

didsomeonesaybunny · 20/05/2018 23:52

Love Nicholas and Alexander

SlowlyShrinking · 20/05/2018 23:56

Nicholas and Robert

SoFake · 21/05/2018 00:01

They are all nice names. Every one of them. 😊

Christopher is a nice name too.

My favourite is Nathanial. It’s less popular and I like Nat as a nickname.

AdaColeman · 21/05/2018 00:13

Nicholas Nathaniel Aidan and Caleb are my favourites.

Jacob is extremely popular, as are all the variations of Alexander.

I'm not keen on Elliott Elias or Lucas.

Sparkles1992 · 21/05/2018 00:31

My nephews name is Jacob Alexander, he's the most perfect little boy Smile

Topseyt · 21/05/2018 00:54

All pretty good for me. Elliott Jacob might work.

TroubledLichen · 21/05/2018 01:03

Some lovely names. Alexander is my favourite, followed by Elliot. The only ones I don’t like are Aaron and Aidan.

catalinablue · 21/05/2018 04:11

Ooh we have very similar taste in boys names, I like almost all of them.. My favourites would have to be Nicholas, Alexander, Elias, Nathaniel, Elliott and Jacob. If I had to choose one, it would be Nathaniel nn Nate.

For the record, I don't think Nicholas would be teased with similarity to 'knickers' at all. I don't think Alice is too similar to Alex either (esp. considering his full name would be Alexander). You could always go for the nn Xander too!

Pudding01 · 21/05/2018 06:30

I like Joshua 🙂

I also like Alexander! Alice and Alex aren't as bad as you think op, but I get it.

If you like Robert but don't like the nn, what about Rupert? x

userabcname · 21/05/2018 06:35

I like Alexander and Jacob.

Mannix · 21/05/2018 06:37

Not keen on Caleb or Elias. The others are all nice. My favourite is Jacob.

MinisterforCheekyFuckery · 21/05/2018 08:52

I really like Caleb, Lucas, Nathaniel and Elliott. Nathaniel is a bit of a mouthful so will probably end up being shortened to Nat or Nate but personally I think they're both nice too.

I really like Aidan (it's on our list) but DH is a bit worried people will associate it with the recent Coronation Street storyline. Don't know if that's a consideration for you.

Joshua, Jacob and Alexander are lovely names but very popular although that may not be an issue for you.

I'm not keen on Robert as although I think it's a nice name, I don't really like Rob, Robbie, Bob or Bobby and some form of shortening seems inevitable.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 21/05/2018 09:17

Robert.

NordicNobody · 21/05/2018 09:23

For me, in order of best to worst:

Alexander
Aaron
Joshua
Elliott
Nathaniel
Robert
Elias
Nicholas
Aidan
Jacob
Lucas
Caleb

I love the name Alexander and would have used it myself if it wasn't the name of so many of my family members! But it's great in its long form, great in its short form, has a great meaning and is associated with a brilliant historical figure - for me it's the "perfect" name.
