Baby is due this week Shock and we still haven’t got a name, so any thoughts on this shortlist and any other suggestions?! We ‘like’ all of these but not really sure if any of them is the one....

Nicholas
Alexander
Jacob
Joshua
Elliott
Nathaniel
Elias
Robert
Lucas
Aidan
Caleb
Aaron

Surname begins with F and is one syllable, so trying to avoid names that are only one syllable as it all sounds a bit short.

Nathaniel and Elias were on our shortlist too! We also had Isaac, have you considered that? We ended up choosing something completely different though so you never know, you might get late inspiration!!

BasicBetty · 21/05/2018 09:56

Nicholas, Alexander and Lucas are my faves from your list.
I'm not keen on Aidan, Caleb and Aaron.
Good luck!

starkid · 21/05/2018 10:40

Nice choices :) Out of those my favourites are:
Joshua
Elliott
Nathaniel
Elias
Lucas

I'd also avoid Alex if you already have an Alice.

MammieBear · 21/05/2018 11:20

Nathaniel

finallychangedmyusername · 21/05/2018 12:11

Oh my, this is basically a list of my favourite boys names! Smile

All are wonderful but I think Alex and Alice is too much and I'm not keen on any of the nicknames for Robert. So maybe Robert or Alexander in the middle only.

Are these all options for middle names too? Some combo ideas (I've given you a dummy surname of Fish):

Elias Robert Fish
Aaron Nathaniel Fish
Nicholas Caleb Fish
Joshua Aidan Fish
Elliott Jacob Fish
Lucas Alexander Fish

Such great names!

Just realised you want some other suggestions.

Jonathan
Ellis
Joel
Dominic
Daniel
Samuel
Jonah
Thomas
Simon
Ethan
Matthew
Reuben
Ellis

Love Elliott and Robert.

Like most of the others as well.

WhereIsThisBaby · 21/05/2018 20:41

Thank you for all of the positive replies Smile it’s nice to hear that others like these names as well! If you have similar taste and have a boy, is it really cheeky to ask what you went for in the end?!

There are some great suggestions that we have already ruled out because they’re ‘taken’ by family or friends - Adam, Jonathan, Daniel, Thomas and Ethan all fall in this category Sad I do like Isaac and Christian as well, but probably wouldn’t use them because there seem to be a lot at our DD’s preschool. I think Reuben is a brilliant name and had already suggested it to DH but he’s not keen Hmm

After just reading all the replies with DH, I think we’re ruling out Caleb (he’s always been a bit unsure about this one anyway) and Elias because I think lots of people would have difficulty pronouncing/spelling it. We don’t watch coronation street so wasn’t aware of any association with Aidan, so thanks for the heads up, DH is googling it now!

I agree with those who have said that Jacob and Joshua are very popular- that’s a slight concern for us as well that he might end up being one of many. And I also really agree with whoever said they love the nicknames for Nathaniel - so do we (in fact DH likes the nicknames more than the ‘proper’ name)!

Thanks so much, any more thoughts or suggestions very gratefully received Smile

I love your list and it is almost identical to my shortlist for both my boys. DS1’s name is on your list. Additionally I had Euan, Evan, Benjamin and Joseph. I went with one of these for DS2. I wanted Nathaniel but DH isn’t great with his ‘th’ pronunciations at times!

GottaGetThisDone · 21/05/2018 21:35

I love Alexander - really wish i had been able to name DS2 (now 24 lol) but ExH refused to accept the nn Alex insisting if he was Alexander he would be nn Alec which i didn't like

NordicNobody · 21/05/2018 22:57

I don't you'd like the name we actually went for as it's a bit unusual but our original short list was Rowan, Tristan, and Arthur. We used James for the middle name. I also loved Reuben and Auden but dp said no.

I don't watch Corination street but the first association that came to mind for me with Aiden was Carries ex in sex and the city!

catalinablue · 22/05/2018 09:06

We have very much the same taste. DD1 would have been Nathaniel (Nate) Elias, Nicholas Alexander, Joel Alexander or Spencer Matteo if she had been a boy. Though alas, we had a daughter named Elliott (Elle) Grace instead. :) Hope these give you some inspo maybe!

buttercup54321 · 22/05/2018 22:15

Robert Alexander Nicholas Caleb.
Michael
Timothy
Jonathan
Julian
Matthew
Thomas
Christian
Anthony
James
Daniel
William
Patrick

autumngold6 · 25/05/2018 19:19

Jacob, Alexander, Nathaniel or Caleb.

CPtart · 25/05/2018 19:33

Alexander or Jacob.
Also like Adam, Isaac, Evan, Dominic, Zachary.

IggyAce · 25/05/2018 19:38

I like Nathaniel my DH vetoed it. My ds has the mn of Alexander only because we couldn't agree on nn I wanted Xander, DH Lex and everyone else would have chosen Alex.
I suggest
Sebastian
Ezekiel
Lucien

mintich · 25/05/2018 19:38

Nicholas
Alexander
Jacob
Joshua
Elliott
Lucas

LastNightsMakeUp · 25/05/2018 22:41

Ah sorry to see Caleb has been given the boot. I love be it and love the meaning.

Have you considered Joseph? Our dd would have been Joseph had she been a ds 😊 we still love it but Caleb is up there on the list this time round. Don't feel like I want to give our next dc DD's boys name - want one of its own IYSWIM!

Perfectly1mperfect · 25/05/2018 22:46

Alexander is lovely. I also like Aidan and Elliot.

KarmaStar · 25/05/2018 22:47

Jacob is a lovely name ,

finallychangedmyusername · 27/05/2018 22:28

To answer your question as to which name I went for in the end, you have listed both DS's names in your most recent post... so clearly you have excellent taste Grin
