I know a family who have 2 boys Rowan (nice) and Hawthorn ( not so nice )

Pebblespony · 17/05/2018 18:40

I know a girl called Rowan.

Marcipex · 17/05/2018 18:43

Girly, we know five girls and one boy called Rowan.
I also know a Rohan, I think it's from LOTR. They pronounce the H in it, Ro Han. It's nicer , I think, for a boy.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 17/05/2018 18:44

I love it - and I think it works well for a boy or a girl.

TuTru · 17/05/2018 18:44

I like it xx

SleepForTheWeek · 17/05/2018 18:49

Would it be pronounced roe-an or rou-an? (IYSWIM!). I never know how to pronounce this name as know children (and pets) who pronounce it differently

Bear2014 · 17/05/2018 18:50

Really nice, and unisex. We know a baby girl Rowan.

Spanneroo · 17/05/2018 19:03

It's lovely. We'd have used it if either DD had been a DS

Madratlady · 17/05/2018 19:04

I like it as a girl name. I know a Rowan and she's a lovely child.

spiderlight · 17/05/2018 19:06

I love it. Regretted not using it for DS and would have used it for any future children if I'd got the chance (girl or boy)

lecossaise · 17/05/2018 19:11

It just makes me picture Mr Bean.

noideawithboysnames · 17/05/2018 19:20

Mixed responses! I know it’s unisex but it seems more masculine to me somehow. I pronounce it more like Row-un I guess Sleep

Lovely name :)

SleepForTheWeek · 17/05/2018 19:27

@noideawithboysnames but row like 'row your boat ' or 'I had a row with DH' ?

deptfordgirl · 17/05/2018 19:29

I love it, especially for a boy. It was on my shortlist if my daughter had been a son.

noideawithboysnames · 17/05/2018 19:30

Oh I see-Row like the boat!

We have a 2 and a half week old Rowan (boy). We love it - unusual but people have heard of it and have had lots of positive comments on his name. His brother calls him RowRow which is cute.

LastNightsMakeUp · 17/05/2018 20:12

Love it

bridgetreilly · 17/05/2018 20:16

I like it for a girl, not so much for a boy.

BrazzleDazzleDay · 17/05/2018 20:19

I know a male and female rowan.

Infact when I started nursery and for a few years after I insisted I wanted to be called Rowan

Makinglists · 17/05/2018 20:20

It was on our final short list for Ds2. I Loved it but Dh was a bit lukewarm about it otherwise we would have a Rowan now.

DramaAlpaca · 17/05/2018 20:21

It's OK. It's better on a boy.

daisypond · 17/05/2018 20:24

I like it for a girl, but not for a boy .

TempsPerdu · 17/05/2018 20:31

Love it, one of DD’s middle names is Rowan. We almost used it as her first name, but I started overthinking the unisex thing. Love the nature connection, and it’s one of the few names that works equally well for both sexes imo.

pinkhorse · 17/05/2018 20:35

Makes me think of Mr Bean
