My eldest daughter (21) is Rowan 😊

Raspberry88 · 17/05/2018 20:43

Erm sorry...it's not a unisex name. It's a male name that people now use for girls too.

Rudgie47 · 17/05/2018 20:46

Love it,my favourite name.

JumpingFrogs · 17/05/2018 20:48

I know a female Rowan who's in her late 50s. To me it will always be a girls name. I think its beautiful for a girl but because of that it seems rather effeminate for a boy. Not generally keen on unisex names !

Violetparis · 17/05/2018 20:49

I like it, does make me think of The Wicker Man film.

Violetparis · 17/05/2018 20:49

Like it for a girl I meant to say.

flowery · 17/05/2018 20:50

DS1 is Rowan. Love it!

RLOU88 · 17/05/2018 20:51

It’s the name I’ve chosen for my baby boy expected v soon (spelt Roan though)

Potkettleblack2 · 17/05/2018 20:57

Love it! On my shortlist if this baby is a boy.

scrivette · 17/05/2018 20:58

I love it, never thought of the Mr Bean connection!
I like it 'Ro Han'.

noideawithboysnames · 17/05/2018 21:07

Thank you everyone. Think I’m going to add it to the list (If you can call a piece of paper with ROWAN written on it a list, that is?) despite the Bean/Girl/Archbishop issues it’s still appealing to me

I don't like it. I have known two girls with the name but am not keen.

LastNightsMakeUp · 17/05/2018 21:10

I have a second cousin called Rowan - the only one I've ever known. Never have associated it with a girls name.

ButterflyOfFreedom · 17/05/2018 21:12

I like it - more for a boy than a girl but nice either way!

SasBel · 17/05/2018 21:15

Love it, I know an English boy and girl Ro-an and a Scottish girl row (like argument) an .

noideawithboysnames · 17/05/2018 22:11

Another question, what kind of girls names would you say ‘match’ Rowan?

AnElderlyLadyOfMediumHeight · 17/05/2018 22:13

Like it. One of very few truly unisex names (i.e. which work equally well for a girl and a boy, although I think I prefer it for a boy).

AnElderlyLadyOfMediumHeight · 17/05/2018 22:16

Nature names - Holly, Hazel (although it would perhaps be a bit much). Strong, short and not overly flowery names - perhaps Erin, Lucy, Eve, Clara, Anna.

Choccywoccyhooha · 17/05/2018 22:17

It's a gorgeous name for a girl or boy. I wish we had used it for DS2.

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 17/05/2018 22:19

I like it pronounced to rhyme with how not hoe (more usual pronunciation in Scotland until Rowan Atkinson got famous). I think of it as a nature name so (other) girls' names that feel similar are things like Hazel, Fern, Briony.

OllyBJolly · 17/05/2018 22:20

Love it for a boy or girl.

Sophronia · 17/05/2018 23:47

I only like it for a girl.

Thetimehascometo · 18/05/2018 00:20

I teach a Roman who I (secretly) really really like. He’s a bit of a rebel/teenage grump but in a one to one situation is a really nice kid! I’d happily call my kid Rowan but DH vetoed it (and so many other names, both being teachers is a nightmare)

ScreamingValenta · 18/05/2018 00:28

There is always Rowena, which apparently has completely different roots from Rowan, but sounds quite similar.

Rowan makes me think of Marlow, Morrison and Atkinson in that order. I prefer it to Rowena.

gillybeanz · 18/05/2018 00:41

I know several Rowans and two are girls.
