Dennis?

ive fallen in love with the name dennis. the only person that doesn't like it is my mil. i know its an old 'fashioned' name but i think its lovely. i think its so much better then half of the names i hear nowadays! its up to everyone what they name their own child and i know it shouldn't matter what people say,but shes got me thinking that the names really horrible:(

I don't know anyone under 50 called Dennis. But if it's what you like go for it.

ive never seen dennis the menace,someone said it the other day when i said we like the name dennis o.o,its one of those names where i don't want my little boy getting hounded by it or bullied,but i just cant help but love it

I know a 30 something with a baby Dennis, I think it was a relatives name. TBH, I really don't like it, sorry.

I don't think children will even question it. It'll be those from mid 20's up who'll automatically think 'the menace'. I'm fond of the name Dennis, it was my Grandad's name. If you like it, use it.

I don't think it's a horrible name. I don't particularly like it but it's not that bad of a name!

I know a 12 year old called Denis. Wouldn't be my choice because of the menace connection but we cant all be the same.

I like Dennis, love Den/Denny as a nick name.

If you like it and the only thing putting you off is your MIL then you should still go ahead. She named her babies now you get to name yours.

I don't find it awful but I don't love it either. I do think its a name that will suit any age though so that's a big positive. The name my mom chose for me her mom hated. The name my sister chose for one of hers my mom hated. But you know, that stopped when the name became a person and not just a name if you know what I mean.

Do you look at the name/s your MIL used for her children and love the names? If you don't its simply that you have different taste than each other.

Dennis will be our son's middle name, after my grandad. I'm really fond of it because of the family link (my grandad passed away this year) but I don't think I would have used it as a first name.

Every Dennis I ever knew in real life was over 50 and very, very overweight. Put me right off the name.

Dennis is cool! And people's associations will change once they meet a young Dennis, it's just that they only know old ones.

Don't like it sorry but if you (and anyone else who's opinion matters) like it then go for it!

I have a friend called Dennis and hes lovely so I dont hate it.... does seem odd on a baby however! But I guess all Denniss were babies once!!

It's not up to your mother-in-law. If you and your husband like it, use it.

It wouldn't be my choice, but it's not my baby. Or hers.

Dennis the Menace is a current TV series, on CBBC, so children nowadays will know it. It's not just the Beano from back in the day.
