Girl or boy, the sort you’d find in Jeeves and Wooster. Hit me!

Don’t worry, these are not for a human baby Grin

I’ve met a Pooky and a Binny. Both v upper class. Nice, but posh enough for the names to not sounds ridiculous when they introduced themselves although I do remember opening my eyes proper wide at binny because she marched over and thrust out her hand for a shake and barked “Hi I’m Binny Lastname” which is beyond formal for the circles I usually mix in Grin

Socks, Pongo, Bundle, Egg.

All from Agatha Christie.

UrbaneSprawl · 14/05/2018 22:16

I have had work colleagues over the years called Henners, Tuffers, Topsy (x2), Bunny (short for Cordelia), Bobbo, Pinky and the CLB. Surprisingly, I don’t work in a private gallery in Mayfair, or as a cricket commentator.

I knew a cat called Mags once - I always thought it was short for Margaret, but apparently it’s because as a kitten she’d only sleep in the cardboard box her humans put the recycling in, which said “Newspapers & Mags” on the side in marker.

These names are fab! May I ask, for those who know a Plum, is it their actual name or a nickname for something? I think it's a really pretty name

finallychangedmyusername · 15/05/2018 08:04

@PixiePixie1 I think Plum is a nickname for Victoria.

Princess9891 · 15/05/2018 08:06

KisstheTeapot14 · 15/05/2018 10:58

Geoffrey Bubbles Bon Bon (not a Jeeves & Wooster, though I always hear it in my head as being said by Bertie - greeting a long lost school chum).

Derivative of this has become DH pet name.

Pom Pom.

God help if we ever get a fluffy pet of some description.

KisstheTeapot14 · 15/05/2018 11:01

I have met a (grown up) sister and brother called Pinky and Bulbul. Some families in India seem to be fond of these kind of nicknames.

KisstheTeapot14 · 15/05/2018 11:06

I know a girl called Plum too.

I always liked Dodie. Like Dodie Smith. (Dorothy)
Tottie (as in book by Rumer Godden)

Other Indian nicknames - toasty, silky, bablu, chikoo (after a kind of furry fruit)

MeadowGrass · 15/05/2018 11:12

Looby (was my nickname...)
