Please help us name our DD!

DP and I are expecting our DD in August. She is our first DC. Smile

The surname is very common, one syllable and boring. Therefore, we'd like the name to be quite girly or a little less common, though nothing too out there. (I know some of the names below are on the Top 20 lists but we don't know any in our area!) The middle name will be Louise or Lynn.

We know lots and lots of E names already so would like to stay away from those ideally!

Names we potentially like so far are:
Darcy (my fave)
Harper (DP's fave)
Piper
Bella (DM had a dog called Bella who died last year... is it too soon to reclaim the name?)
Riley (I'm not overly keen but DP loves it)

Please please please, offer any suggestions you may have. I'm finding this so difficult and quite stressful! Too much pressure. Grin

Bella is the only one I vaguely like, and I'm still not keen . I think it possibly is too close to claim the name from being a dog's name, maybe. It depends.
All the other names are really not very girly at all, so I'm surprised they're on your list! They are very surname-type names, or more suitable for boys. Harper I'd rule out immediately as it looks like you're too influenced by celebs. Riley is just a bog-standard surname, and not an attractive one at that. Darcy seems pretty downmarket to me nowadays, so that would put me off. Piper is the best of these options, and I think it could grow on me.

elephanttrunks · 13/05/2018 13:57

Arabella it Delilah are girly and gorgeous.

elephanttrunks · 13/05/2018 13:57

And not it!

applesandpears56 · 13/05/2018 14:00

Go with darcey
Or wait to see what she looks like
How about a longer name with Bella as the nn
Arabella
Annabella
Isabella

BoeandBall · 13/05/2018 14:00

I think Piper is a lovely name, quite unique as not many people have the name

applesandpears56 · 13/05/2018 14:05

Piper is a nn not a name - surely you need Philippa or something on the birth certificate and use piper as the nn?

Andthatsthat · 13/05/2018 14:09

I love Piper. I also like Harper, but the Beckham connection is too strong for me.

Not so keen on Bella. It’s becoming overused and every other little girl I hear of at the moment seems to have an Isabella, Annabella, Arabella type name.

I don’t like Riley for a boy, but actually for a girl, it’s a grower!

Unfortunately I don’t like Darcy at all.

@elephanttrunks I love Delilah! I had that on our list originally but DP wasn't keen.

@applesandpears56 I definitely like the idea of using Bella as a nickname! That makes me feel better than stealing it from the poor dog. Grin

Love Piper but not overly keen on Philippa. Will definitely have a look for more names that can have Piper has a surname. Smile

I originally thought all those names were quite girly, but it sounds like I'm wrong! I used to love classic names like Alice and Elizabeth but they just sound so boring with the surname. Sad

I reclaimed a name from a pet for one of my DC. They love their name and in fact my other DC is a bit miffed I've not used their name previously for a pet Hmm ! I like Bethany, Florence or Daisy and think they all works well with Louise. Not keen on surnames for first names for girls, what if you called Harper and she marries Mr Harper / Parker etc

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 13/05/2018 14:26

❤️ Bella
Darcy Louise
Harper Lynn

happytobemrsg · 13/05/2018 14:27

Oh I love Darcy

Icklepickle101 · 13/05/2018 14:28

I know you said no E names but we decided on our dds name this morning so I’ll add hers anyway!

Eliza
Astrid
Beatrice/Beatrix

Out of your list I like the top 2, not the others

Icklepickle101 · 13/05/2018 14:29

Just remembered DPs favourite was Tallulah which I vetoed because it was too girly for me!

MikeUniformMike · 13/05/2018 14:29

They're all surnames apart from Bella.

Pixel99 · 13/05/2018 14:31

And Alexandra - with so many names from it Alex, Lexie, Alexa (ok maybe not) she'll have her pick of names

MinaPaws · 13/05/2018 14:33

I like Darcy best.

Bella is OK but weird to take a pet's name. Better to go for Arabella or Annabella or Belinda and use it as the shortened version.

The rest..I quite like them all but they might date. If you like Harper and Piper - both musical names - how about Viola?

KnockMeDown · 13/05/2018 14:35

But not Viola Lynn Shock

feliciabirthgiver · 13/05/2018 14:42

August?

MadameJosephine · 13/05/2018 14:43

With a single syllable surname I’d choose a 3 or 4 syllable first name

Jennifer
Genevieve
Miranda
Elizabeth
Alexandra
Annabel
Emmeline
Verity
Felicity
Susannah
Antigone

PandaCat · 13/05/2018 14:43

From your list I like Piper and Harper best!

I like Bella too, but wouldn't name her "after a dog" she'll probably find out in the future and won't be pleased about it! I've had to avoid a name for the same reason. My eldest remembers the pet so couldn't even have it as a middle name Grin

MinaPaws · 13/05/2018 14:44

Oops. You're right @KnockMeDown Grin

CookPassBabtridge · 13/05/2018 14:52

Of course you can have Piper as a full name! We live in the age where this is normal now.

I love your top 4 OP!

LexieLulu · 13/05/2018 15:01

I love Delilah (I love the plain white tees song too).

Bella would be quite common where I live due to the amount of Isabella's and Annabelle's

Although I love the name Bella, I also love Belle x
