Please help us name our DD!

DP and I are expecting our DD in August. She is our first DC. Smile

The surname is very common, one syllable and boring. Therefore, we'd like the name to be quite girly or a little less common, though nothing too out there. (I know some of the names below are on the Top 20 lists but we don't know any in our area!) The middle name will be Louise or Lynn.

We know lots and lots of E names already so would like to stay away from those ideally!

Names we potentially like so far are:
Darcy (my fave)
Harper (DP's fave)
Piper
Bella (DM had a dog called Bella who died last year... is it too soon to reclaim the name?)
Riley (I'm not overly keen but DP loves it)

Please please please, offer any suggestions you may have. I'm finding this so difficult and quite stressful! Too much pressure. Grin

It might be normal but doesn’t make it right. It also delinates your child as a certain class.

VileyRose · 13/05/2018 15:06

Sophia
Zara
Amber
Ruby
Leah
Grace
Maisie

applesandpears56 · 13/05/2018 15:07

Pia is a lovely short complete name that is sweet and girly?

Wtf? What “class”? I like Piper and have done since I was a “Charmed” fan!!!

applesandpears56 · 13/05/2018 15:08

Are you American op? Your names are very American sounding.

mummmy2017 · 13/05/2018 15:09

Angelica Lou Smith....
Sorry just trying it out with common surname....

applesandpears56 · 13/05/2018 15:10

can you imagine having a princess piper or prime minister piper? No

applesandpears56 · 13/05/2018 15:10

Pia Louise smith however lovely :)
Or Annabella Lynn smith also lovely and classless

MammieBear · 13/05/2018 15:25

Darcey and Harper although harper slightly wins the vote Cassidy is one to consider or Paige, Lola, Mabel, Tara, Isla

Ahhh, some excellent suggestions so far! I didn't even realise that our names were mostly surnames and musical names! These threads are very eye opening.

I think you are all right about Bella. On it's own, it's out of the running as I don't want it to be associated with the dog. Unfortunately, DP doesn't like Arabella or Isabella. Sad

@applesandpears56 It's so funny you've said that! DP is American - he obviously has lots of influence if it's reflected in our name choices. Grin

I prefer Pippa to Piper. I also like Pip as a nn.

Other names

Phoebe Louise
Matilda (Tilly/Matty?) Lynn

Riley Louise
Ivy Lynn/ Louise

Ava Lynn

Harper Louise/Lynn is lovely and so is Darcy Louise.

What about Daisy/ Maisie etc?

chezmk1988 · 13/05/2018 19:18

You could always do Isabella, Annabella, Arabella and use Bella as a nickname?

I like piper best from your list.

We recently whittled down our girls list. However here are a few suggestions:

Matilda
Edie
Ava
Beatrice
Phoebe
Jemima (DH LOVED this, I was less keen)
Niamh (most likely our number 1)
Georgia
Grace

I love Piper! Harper is also nice. I love unisex names though. Riley is again also nice. - Out of your choices def Piper (Charmed fan alert). Lovely name in general.

LucyJ61 · 13/05/2018 21:21

I love Piper, also love Harper although a bit too Beckham for me. @applesandpears - i think the whole prime minister thing only applies to our generation. We’re all called fairly traditional names from a fairly small pool (no mumsnet for our parents!) so it would be fairly unusual to us to have a PM called anything other than a fairly traditional name. But all of our children have such a lovely and broad variety of names that I don’t think it will hold them back to not be called Elizabeth or Jennifer or Philippa. So what if your GP is called Daisy, or your solicitor is called Luna or your headteacher is called Flora? That will be normal. I get your point but I think skills and experience will lead the way - rather than what you’re called. That’s certainly the message I’d like my children - and their friends - to grow up with, anyway.

AlyTab · 13/05/2018 21:22

Sorry, forgot - if you're looking for a typically more "girly" name, then Bella is really pretty :)

applesandpears56 · 13/05/2018 22:27

Lucy I do agree to a certain extent however despite the variety some names are still more portable than others. Flora for example has always been a traditional name - Luna might end up being our generations Donna or Tracey?

Sophronia · 13/05/2018 22:28

Bella is the only one I like.

How about...

Scarlett
Phoebe
Skylar
Willow
Avery
Marnie
Zara
Savannah
Eden
Audrey
Juliet
Lila
Penelope
Aubrey
Stella
Hazel
Norah
Hadley
Everly
Autumn
Quinn

batmanpants · 13/05/2018 22:33

Love Darcy!

TatianaLarina · 13/05/2018 23:15

Bella’s awful. Why would you want to copy the Beckhams?

Darcy and Piper are the best from that list.

Chilver · 13/05/2018 23:19

Phaedra
Fia
Isolde
Zoe

MrsCD67 · 18/05/2018 17:27

Anaïs
Athena
Lyra
Hera
Clodagh
(Ev)Angeline
Margot
