Really love the name, but I don’t know what other people think about it.

Is it a human name though?

Ford used to produce a car named Ghia, it would remind me of that.

applesandpears56 · 11/05/2018 21:48

It’s ok
Prefer
Gina or Gioia though

Sophronia · 11/05/2018 21:59

I prefer Gianna or Gioia.

myfriendbob · 11/05/2018 22:01

I think of the early supermodel that died of Aids, but then I'm old.

Sparrowlegs248 · 11/05/2018 22:02

Looking at it is pronounced it ghee-ah . I think a lot of people would say gear. Either of those, or jee-a, aren't nice . Imo.

Gaia though is lovely.

myfriendbob · 11/05/2018 22:04

No, its G (like the letter)...A (as in a book, a car, a name).

Soft g, not hard.

RedDwarves · 11/05/2018 22:08

I can't believe how many people on this thread are confused about the pronunciation. I thought Gia was a pretty well known name, albeit not widely used. Would people pronounce Gina "gee-nah" or "gye-nah"? Doubt it.

I like it, though I do prefer it as a shortening for Georgia.

LoveInTokyo · 11/05/2018 22:14

Pretty name but the only Gia I’ve ever heard of is Gia Carangi, an American model who died of AIDS.

Pollaidh · 11/05/2018 22:15

It sounds like a car, something small and nippy for city use...

Viola82 · 11/05/2018 22:18

I know one Gia and she's lovely. Definitely popular name in London, not sure about rest of the country...

chezmk1988 · 11/05/2018 22:21

Not keen sorry

KatyaZamolodchikova · 11/05/2018 22:23

It immediately makes me think of Gia Gunn, from s6 of RuPauls Drag Race.

hampsteadholly · 11/05/2018 22:36

Nice Italian name

Cosmoa · 11/05/2018 22:44

I love it Smile

BeTheHokeyMan · 11/05/2018 22:46

I love it has always been a favourite of mine

RavenWings · 11/05/2018 23:16

Gia the boom boom Gun from Drag Race!

I like it. I however wouldn't like it in certain accents that will make it sound like jeer, but then I dislike that -ar sound in most names anyway. I do think it kind of blends as a Mia, Tia esque name.

Clawdy · 12/05/2018 08:27

Don't think it's Italian, if it is then it's pronounced "Jah." The "i" is silent after the g.

myfriendbob · 12/05/2018 10:02

It is Italian, and its not a silent i unless you are in Italy.

LolitaLempicka · 12/05/2018 10:05

Surely not a hard G? That’s ugly.

PickleJuice · 12/05/2018 10:07

I really like it.

myfriendbob · 12/05/2018 10:10

OF COURSE its not a hard G. RTFT.

faintlinesquints · 12/05/2018 10:11

I love it! Also loved the film about the supermodel too.
I’m so surprised many people thinks it’s pronounced ghee-a.. I thought it was really very obviously a soft G pronunciation.

IceSwan · 12/05/2018 10:12

Beautiful

Shopkinsdoll · 12/05/2018 10:13

seems like people are making up random words now for their babies names.

They are, but perhaps you could find a relevant thread to post that on, because this one is an actual name. It's a dimunitive of Giovanna/Gianna and has been for a very long time.
