Really love the name, but I don’t know what other people think about it.

Love it OP. I’d name her Gianna, Gia for short.

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 12/05/2018 10:41

seems like people are making up random words now for their babies names.

Seems like some people aren't very knowledgeable when it comes to classical names.

Yes people are making up names (and oh by the way always have done) but if you dont know a name try at least reading the thread if not googling it before commenting

Lovely!! I don’t understand how so many people are unsure on the pronunciation though, seems pretty simple to me. Like Mia or Tia except with a soft G, right? I think it’s a beautiful name that I think would suit her both in childhood and adulthood.

Snowysky20009 · 12/05/2018 11:09

I thought it was a well known Italian name. I like it, but now people have linked it to the car, that's all I can think of...

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 12/05/2018 11:11

I don't like it. I think a lot of people will struggle with how to pronounce it.

Standardpubquizname · 12/05/2018 11:13

I like it but unfortunately I think lots of people would pronounce it with a hard G

Only if they are very silly.

RedDwarves · 12/05/2018 11:18

Yes, Gia is a diminutive of Gianna. Not made up at all.

BadTasteFlump · 12/05/2018 11:20

I don't think it's strong enough as a stand alone name. Ok as a nn.

JessieMcJessie · 12/05/2018 11:22

There’s a character called Gia in Timeless like her, like the name.

Leeds2 · 12/05/2018 11:23

There are lots of girls called Jiya at the school where I volunteer. I think that is a nicer spelling than Gia; to me, Gia sounds like a car.

FASH84 · 13/05/2018 16:01

Surely it's only relevant if you have an Italian connection or heritage? It's like calling a baby boy Michel rather than Michael in the UK and not being French

cp1991 · 13/05/2018 17:58

how is it only relevant to people with italian connections / heritage??

DameSylvieKrin · 13/05/2018 19:55

I love the name Gia but English people will mangle the pronunciation. If you do decide to go with it, watch the film of the same name first (or just watch it anyway, it's not bad).
How about Pia if you are looking for an alternative?

myfriendbob · 13/05/2018 22:38

Its not even slightly like that, there is no english version of Gia.

DrinkYourGreenTea · 13/05/2018 22:42

I don't like it personally.

It looks like a shortening of a longer name, like Georgina.

myfriendbob · 13/05/2018 22:58

It is. Gianna, which is itself a diminutive of Giovanna.

daisi · 13/05/2018 23:57

Emma Thompson's daughter is called this I believe.

daisi · 13/05/2018 23:58

Spelt Gaia though

daisi · 14/05/2018 00:01

O sorry...so completely different. My mistake.

augustusglupe · 14/05/2018 00:17

I love the name Gia. I think of the 70s/ 80s model Gia Carangi.

Wildlingofthewest · 14/05/2018 00:24

Awful. Sorry but it’s horrible.

TroubledLichen · 14/05/2018 00:28

Gia a brand of fancy tomato purées. They do a particularly good garlic in a tube and also a sun dried tomato paste that is fab for pumping up pasta sauces. They can be found in your local Waitrose next to the tinned tomatoes if anyone is interested.

Awful as a baby name though.

myfriendbob · 14/05/2018 11:49

Spelt Gaia though

Thats a totally different name, so no, she's not called Gia Hmm

People on here are so weird about names. It's a perfectly normal easy to spell and say name.
